Re: Tow rating
Thanks adeluca. That sticker shows the GVWR for a PW in general - 8510 pounds. Most of the PW are around 7000 pounds, so a starting point for the payload is around the 1510 pounds.
There should be one more sticker (with yellow on it) that will show the payload for your particular truck. Lets see it!
And thanks again!

Re: Tow rating
I do not have the Ram box. My door sticker says the total weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed 1307 lbs. GVWR on the door sticker is 8510 lbs. Subtract 1307 lbs from that, and you probably have the weight of the truck (7203 lbs).olyelr wrote:Let us know what the door stickers show, please. GVWR and payload. And if you have rambox or not. It would be much appreciated!MoparToYou wrote:I'm also pretty sure my 2016 Laramie Power Wagon has a rated towing capacity of 8700 lbs, not the 10,030 lbs stated in the opening post in this thread.ggbull wrote:My payload on a 2012 Laramie PW is 1790lbs. I looked at a 2014 PW Laramie (every available option) its payload is 697lbs! Could not believe my eyes.
This is off topic, but I have been thinking about installing a set of White Knuckle rocksliders, with the diamond plate full top plate. That would subtract another 300 lbs from the cargo capacity of my truck. Carrying an extra 300 lbs everywhere you go has got to make a noticeable difference in fuel cost over the lifetime of the truck as well. I've decided I don't get in the rocks enough to justify that extra 300 lbs.
People that add heavy steel front and rear bumpers, rock sliders, a larger spare tire, and recovery gear, are likely overweight with just the occupants in the cab, and no cargo at all.

2014 PW Tradesman with Ramboxes and not much other options.
these were the 2 that I actually test drove; both rode smooth as silk (even on rough roads).
Like others said, don't get too hung up on the payload # on the door sticker - just drive it (and smile)!!

Re: Tow rating
Thanks for the info guys!
I guess the only thing that worries me (ever so slightly) is having an issue with the DOT in regards to towing my travel trailer. Obviously it can handle it in real life with no issues, but on paper it will most likely be overloaded.
Oh BTW, I drive a dodge minivan around all year for work and the payload for that is 1150 pounds. Probably more than some of the new PW LMAO
.
Oh I am pretty sure I would have no problem accomplishing that!yooper68 wrote:

I have that exact setup from white knuckle coated in Line-X & love it. Was a PIA to install but love it. I've seen maybe a -.2 MPG HIT nothing big to me. These are a no brainier to me.

Have you taken yours across a scale yet Tony? What was your yellow sticker payload? I know you have a ton of sweet mods that aren't light...

I live in Edmonton, Alberta and I have never heard of anybody getting pulled over or weighed unless they looked horribly over loaded. This part of the world is filled with big trucks hauling quads and trailers.olyelr wrote:Good to hear.JBM Power Wagon wrote:Here is a pic of my 2014 all loaded up.
-6500lb trailer with at least 1000lbs of water, propane and gear in it.
-In the bed I have my ATV, my kids mini ATV, generator, extra gas, ramps. Probably 900lbs or so.
-Once we were on the road around 400lbs of people too.
I have Air Lift air bags and with them the truck handles this set up and amount of weight really well!
So it was obviously way overloaded by the manufacturers specs. Is this ever really much of an issue for anyone? Anyone actually been weighed by the DOT?

Re: Tow rating
I really do not understand why you would worry about the number on the sticker. The truck is built with all the same components of trucks with double the number on the sticker. In the US, RV's are NOT subject to going over scales in any state that I am aware of. Republik of California, maybe, but someone that lives there might want to verify.
The rhetoric that usually goes along with this discussion on other sites has to do with supposed legal issues should you crash. Unless you kill someone with your rig, it will never even come up. If you do, you are screwed anyway and the number on the sticker isn't going to matter. Besides, 99.9% of law enforcement are going to look at your 2500 series truck and never question its ability unless you have a ridiculous load on. Almost nobody outside a forum like this is even aware that Ram hosed us with artificially low payload ratings. Personally, I treat it like the last 10 HD trucks I have owned. I tow what I want when I want and don't worry about it.

From what I can gather, other than the soft suspension and different tires the trucks are basically the same. The low ratings seem crazy to me, but I suppose with the suspension so soft they most likely will sag quite a bit more than a non PW, which can be a hazard when towing. But, easy fix IMO with bags.

Re: Tow rating
I have only towed about 4000 lbs with mine, and lots of smaller trailers. I don't see the sag but, those are fairly light loads. The tires are more than up to the loads at 3195lbs each, don't be fooled by the D load rating. I have grossed out at 25,000 lbs on a srw 3rd gen cummins with the exact same size tire cross country many times and never had a tire issue.

Re: Tow rating
Don't get too overconfident about this stuff. I don't tow, but my truck is heavy because of all the crap I carry around. Even with new Carli leaves and Firestone air bags, it still looks like a low-rider when it's packed for a trip. That attitude changes things like headlight aiming and handling characteristics on slick surfaces. It's not just the weight in back, but the low attitude combined with a heavy load can make for some squirrely handling on wet and icy roads.

I have never even looked at the door sticker, I load it down and let it eat. This isn't a heavy load but I had about 400# in the bed and hauled this 18' dual axle with a 250 gal lp tank and this old Scrambler yesterday. No problem at all getting up to speed and easily held 75mph on the interstate and averaged 11.7mpg.

Re: Tow rating
Thought I would chime in for the hell of it lol I know i'm a 3rd gen wagon owner so my payload is much higher than the current gen wagons. I believe my truck is rated for 2,250 lbs I hauled 1 cu yard of stone the other day and that was about 2,500-2,600 lbs. Truck squatted but by no means was I near the bump stops or getting negative arch... Like others I stay within ball park but I really don't sweat it to much

~3400 lbs IIRC? At least the bump stops keep it from sagging any more!

This looks like the beginning of a Top Gear episode or one crazy Swamp PW. Now just have a custom made flat bottom that you can drive the PW on, strap down & go get some gators.AllanDickerson wrote:I bent my tailgate by accident.
