Can you explain your spare tire mount idea?

I'll hopefully come up with a rough sketch of it later this weekend, I'll post up then but, to put it simply, it is an in bed mount but different from any I have seen. It allows for full usage of the bed in one of its positions. It will require some cutting to fit though but, nothing too awfully unreasonable.

Re: A teaser for now.... thoughts on Power Wagon specific pa
Hopefully it will be!!!! I was planning to start working on stuff this past friday but, a family situation came up. These items will probably be after hours projects for the prototypes since we stay ridiculously busy during our open hours!!!
Re: A teaser for now.... thoughts on Power Wagon specific pa
Looks like there's going to be a bit of a delay, we are apparently going to be building a new shop car for a race in mid august. That's likely going to be taking up all our off hours!
I'll keep y'all posted when progress starts on the Power Wagon parts build! I'll (hopefully) be buying some materials tomorrow!

Re: A teaser for now.... thoughts on Power Wagon specific pa
Cool beans. Even tho I just bought a new bumper I'm already thinking of ways to better it and the main two are 1: a double shear mount to frame horn kinda like factory and 2: beyond that is to make the bumper mount an "L" shape of sorts to utilize the other two frame mounts where the "plow mounts" were from the factory.
2010 black pearl(PXR) on 35s, bypass harness, gooseneck, CAI, 3" magnaflow catback, bulldog hemi GT.... more to come soon
Re: A teaser for now.... thoughts on Power Wagon specific pa
jeep_boy02- it's funny you should mention those two points- those are two of the 3 main features to my design. (third being not sticking way out front) I wanted to tie in both of those features that way there's no chance of deflection under side load or vertical load. I am really looking forward to getting started on this stuff!!!

Re: A teaser for now.... thoughts on Power Wagon specific pa
I like your idea's, wish I was still in NC so that I could help out. I offer my rear bumper design if you like it as a starting point. The main reason for building it this way is so that I can expand on it later if I like with a rear winch, lights, spare tire carrier, etc.RAM4ROKS wrote:So, in the time I've owned my Power Wagon, I've always bemoaned the fact that there isn't a huge aftermarket for parts for it. Might be able to expand it though......
I'll try to make a long story short. Basically- I work for a performance car shop, we do in house mechanical, machining, dyno tuning, and fabrication. Our main focus of our product lines has been building track day cars (for customers competing in SCCA, NASA, etc), we can do everything in house to take a car from stock to being a fully caged racing car ready to meet the standards of whatever applicable sanctioning body. We've done a few cool 4x4 builds over time (amongst other things, a 16 passenger Unimog build comes to mind!) but, they haven't been a focal point of the business. A good number of us here at the shop are also 4x4 enthusiasts in addition to liking fast cars so, we are thinking about adding a 4x4 product line. We are, in particular (for starters) considering a line of products for Power Wagons. (I guess my incessant talking about my truck (and complaining about the lack of parts made specifically for it) EVERY DAY pays off, LOL!) There's not yet much specific to our trucks, so this would be a big step for us 4th gen guys!!!!
To my knowledge, there are 4 companies that make rock sliders for our trucks, correct?
Aluminess
Randy Ellis Designs
Rock Slide Engineering
White Knuckle
Also, 3 companies that offer (or will offer soon) front bumpers specific to our trucks?
Addicted Desert Designs
Aluminess
Mercenary Offroad
And 2-3 companies that make non-specific bumper parts that one could modify to work (specifically front horns)?
Carli
Patton Fab
(Maybe) Thuren for a total of three????
Then for high clearance rear bumpers, ummm........? Several come to mind that make rear bumpers but, I can't think of any that make a high clearance variant???
At any rate, since this idea is kind of my baby, I am coming up with a design to what I think would do well for bumpers, I am thinking:
Front: High clearance Hybrid plate/tube that sticks no further than 2" past the grille
Rear: Tube- with 2 options:
1) fits into the stock location
2) wraps around the rearend of the truck terminating at the rear wheelwells, requiring cutting the "fangs" off the rear quarters.
Let me know what y'all are thinking in terms of bumper and slider ideas that appeal to y'all, this is pretty much a carte blanche opportunity to come up with some awesome bumpers and sliders!!!! This is a clean slate design, not starting with any preconceived design or trying to adapt over any existing parts. This is going to be made by a professional fabricator with my truck as a guinea pig!!!!
Mods, if this needs moved to the vendor section, or I need a vendor membership, just let me know! Thank you!!!!!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Re: A teaser for now.... thoughts on Power Wagon specific pa
Thanks for sharing the pics RedMan! Nice work! I like that rear bumper! My bedsides wish I had done something like that side protection you've got there! I am definitely going ahead and doing the wrap around bumper after looking at yours! (but, for those who do not want to cut- fear not!- I will also be doing a no cutting version that doesn't wrap around first! (I'll likely sell it as a bargain prototype!))
I ordered about a grand worth of additional steel (had some for the project already), some came in today, some will be coming next week! (that should be more than I need except for one size that I'll likely have to order more of, I told them to give me the longest stick (last time I ordered, that was 24 feet), the longest they had this time was 18 feet, DOH!!!) The sliders will be all .250 wall (plate, rectangular tube, square tube, and round DOM); the bumpers will be .250 plate and .120 DOM tube; the tire carrier will be .120 DOM and .250 plate; the bed cage will be 2" .120 wall DOM. Since I actually managed to put a small dent in my Aluminess slider (seriously!), my new sliders are going to be BEEF!!!! We will offer a thinner wall option though- for those who want to keep their wallet heavier and their sliders lighter, LOL!
Still debating on how to do the shackle tabs so, anybody with a good beefy design idea, please post up!!!!Also, feel free to make more general design suggestions, thanks!!!

Have them be part of where the bumper mounts to the frame, sorta like the bumper is built on to the mounts/shackle tabs rather than the tabs being mounted to the bumper.RAM4ROKS wrote:Still debating on how to do the shackle tabs so, anybody with a good beefy design idea, please post up!!!!Also, feel free to make more general design suggestions, thanks!!![/b]

Re: A teaser for now.... thoughts on Power Wagon specific pa
Well, I have been without a front bumper or sliders for several months now. Now, I am without 65% (or so) of my rear bumper by virtue of bending/tearing of 1/3 of it on a tree, LOL! Took a sawzall and chopped the rear bumper down to just the center section for now, also cut the rear fenders off at the height of the wrap-around rear bumper I intend to build or have built. (and pounded as much of the bumper tearing tree hit out of my fender as I could) Doesn't look like doing stuff at work is going to come to fruition, we are apparently building a shop sponsored drift car now. I could work on my truck on the weekends but, 3 hours a day round trip (my monday-thursday commute) really has me not wanting to. SO, looks like plans are on hold for now. Sorry for the bummer of an update!

i have a rear 11 000 lb winch installed into a bullet proof bumper, fair leads hide behing the liscense plate. their website does not really show the rear winch mount it just has extra brackets on the inside of their normal rear bumpers

Hey gravel. So far the rear bumper is working great. Even winched a deer up out of the river valley this year. Just needs a wireless remote as crawling underneath to plug in is a pain

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. Been a busy time of it here. Bumper build was on hold waiting for some parts to get plasma cut, and the guy that was supposed to cut them never did. Went with another guy and somehow there was a dimensional mis-communication. (he is more than willing to redo but, then there was a HUGE design change due to me and my fab guy unknowingly being on different pages design wise (when we were looking at the brackets as cut, their shape was different than I had expected) Then, we got snow so I needed the PW back on the road. Then I switched jobs (20 miles away instead of 80 miles away, almost 2x the pay, and WAY better benefits), and now here I am! The project is still on the table, just trying to figure out schedules! (also, plasma cutting guy is 80 miles away (right next to my old job), steel supply place is about 25 miles away, and my buddy with the 4x4 shop that'll be doing the fab work is 120 miles away!!1 (my Ram Charger is actually sitting at his shop waiting on me to switch out vehicles!) So, scheduling is a challenge)
Oh, and even the rock sliders haven't been simple: I wanted 2" OD .250 wall DOM (that's what I've got!) BUT, I can't find anyone that can bend it! Everybody I know that has a bender that is strong enough doesn't have a 2" die (approx $500) or those that have 2" dies have benders that aren't strong enough! (and no, the dies and benders aren't compatible, nor would most shop owners be down for an interchange!) I can't recall if I mentioned it but, I went with White Knuckle's frame mounting design, I bought a set of mounts from him. Gotta say he is a stand up guy! VERY helpful, and awesome parts!!!! (the only reason I did not go with White Knuckle's sliders is I wanted 2" tube instead of 1.75" tube) So, right now, my sliders consist of White Knuckle's mounting hardware and some 4.5"x2" .250 wall rectangular tube until I find someone who can bend the DOM for kickout tubes. The VERY frustrating thing is: on first outing with the half done sliders, a rock snuck over the rectangular tube and tore my passenger side rocker panel up BADLY! (proving the need for a kickout tube!) The rock just BARELY missed my passenger rear door!!! So, all this time that I have been so careful about keeping my rockers perfect and now that rocker is FUBARED! Oh well. That brings the undamaged body panels on my truck down to just 3: driver's front fender, passenger's front fender, driver's rocker panel.

So..... life sure does seem to get in the way of projects! I have been rocking the no front bumper look for more than a year now! : (
Probably getting on toward a year that I have been rolling around with only 1/3 of a rear bumper.
AND.... about 7 months of driving around with rusty, half finished rocksliders!
LMAO!!!!!
