Dick Cepek fun country cupping??

Post by ddenney » Thu Apr 03, 2014 9:00 am

After crawling all over my new truck to get a feel for where everythings at, I've noticed that my rear tires have some pretty good cupping. I noticed a little vibration on the highway that got me to looking for something to that nature. Has anyone here had any issues or heard of any with the Dick Cepek fun country II's?? I mostly ran Nitto trail grapplers and cooper stt's on my diesels and never had an issue.
What could have caused it? Poor rotation by the previous owner I'm guessing.
Thinking I may have to replace them if they wont straighten out soon. If they will.
Thanks

I'm willing to bet they just got rotated before you purchased it.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

Ditto - the PO didn't take care of the tires. That's a bummer, because if it's severe, they will never get better. If they have a lot of tread remaining, your best bet would be using one as a spare and replacing two. The Cepek should wear flat as a pancake if rotated properly.
I'm just along for the ride...

well the good thing is its only on the rear. so i'm thinking of just replacing the two. the fronts look great. Wishing he took better care of them because they have over 3/4 tread left. just the rears give it a good shake at around 45 and up

Long Smoking Burn out........... well never mind. I have the same case on one of my KM2's. Right front hub went out and cuped it a bit, so I put in on the rear, all is fine, but Road noise, but it will never get better till I wear down about a 1/2 inch.....

Yeah, I'd be willing to bet those tires were on the frontend for a long time and got cupped and then rotated onto the rearend. I had the same tires on my Duramax years ago, they seemed to wear out VERY quickly (and had odd wear patterns) and just kept getting louder and louder as they wore! I was not particularly impressed with them. After them I did a compete 180 tire choice wise and went with Michelin LTX M&S! (that shows you just how much those Cepeks put me off from running a mud tire on that truck!)

As Cactus Red said, I'd probably just get two new and keep one of the cupped ones as a spare, if you don't have a matching spare already.
