Light tire load

Post by Degss » Sat Oct 19, 2013 8:03 am

Ok, can't get my truck to go into light tire load. I see from reading on several forums a lot of people struggle with this. On my truck when I press the light tire load button, the display says to inflate to light load pressure. Wich should be 60 in front and 45 in rear. But my display says inflate to 60 front 127 rear when I press light load button. Can someone please check there's and see if it says 60 front and 45 rear. I think something is goofy on mine. Why would it tell u to put the rear tires at 127lbs. Was something calibrated wrong from the factory!

Most of us have the tires at pressures well below the limits of the system all the time. I run in the 40's - better ride, and it makes the tires wear better. And with 35's, even E rated tires don't go to 80.

My duratracs recommend 65 so thats what I run at. If not, I would be down at light tire load.

That's the max pressure, and at that, you will wear the top of the tread faster than needed.

I run 45/40 front and rear on my E rated 35" Coopers. The TPMS system doesn't like it but I've gotten used to it dinging at me every time I start the truck.

myoung84, can't you lower your tire pressure setting with your bullydog tuner?

Yes, the BullyDog will allow you to adjust the threshold. I have a Diablo tuner now and they haven't released that feature yet...

Trust y'all enough to try this, dropped my duratracs to 46 all around to see how it rolls. Might drop the backs to 40 here at the end of the day.

Get your truck weighed, total, then front and rear, find the load index marked on the sidewalls of your tires. Then look at the load/inflation tables for your tire load index. Go from there.....

You might be amazed at what you find, I was! I now run my Yokohama Geolandar 315-70R-17's at 35pis on the street (unless I put a load in it, then I air up). 35pis is fine for my normal off road also.

The owner's manual states there are two tire pressure settings. One for light load and one for heavy load. Front and rear pressure limits are listed on the driver front door decal. Once the tires are set to the proper pressures, you press the tire pressure load button to switch from light to heavy or heavy to light. It's very particular though and you almost have to be right at the recommended pressures.

... my two cents anyway ...

That sounds like a warranty repair to me ... There are no tires you would install that can handle 127psi

Makes me glad (again) that I don't have TPMS on my '05.
