So I'm kinda confused about the legality of beadlocks fit Street use...

My understanding is that to have a DOT legal beadlock you have either:

1. Have a beadlock that can also transition back to a standard type wheel. You also have to have it transitioned for street use when on the street. Meaning it is installed over a lip on the inside like a normal wheel.

2. You have to have a double-beadlock, which is a standard beadlock but also includes a loner inside the wheel the acts as a crush sleeve to pinch the tire. This method goes beadlock-tire-inner beadlock-tire-fixed side of wheel. I think his is the method that Hutchinson uses to make their beadlocks legal. This is the same method used in my HMMWV wheels (I believe made by Hutchinson)

You may be right but for one exception: Centerline ICE wheels were DOT approved and I don't think they met either criteria. (maybe they could be run without the locking portion? But, I doubt it, they were designed to be used by the military on road and off with the locking ring in place. (they only lock the outer bead) They were sold for civilian purchases for a few years but were nearly $700 and HEAVY!!! They were stout though, forged!!!)

For years I've debated buying the Staun internal beadlocks. The inflatable ones that can act as a run flat. I still would likely go that route vs a dedicated beadlock

If just for cost reasons, both initial purchase and replacement cost when I break a wheel, I like the idea of those inflatable ones. I wonder how much of a pain they are to install, but it seems like a very good idea. You can get pressures pretty low with them. I'm not sure if they work for the primary purpose I would want though. If you were rock crawling they would be great, although not quite to the lowest pressures you can achieve with real beadlocks. My concern and want for beadlocks is when I'm aired down, going fast and come into a turn or hit a rut, and the tire pops off the bead and gets pushed in towards the middle of the wheel. I'm not sure that those inflatable ones would really help as much there. Really you would need a double-beadlock to save you there though, and only the real HHMWV wheels use that. And the ones I have are 17lbs per wheel, just for the inner beadlock... Pipe dreams.

For me I don't deflate for any high speed stuff. I only air down for technical type where flotation and grip are key so for me the Staun ones always seemed best. And I don't think they would be that hard to install and could be swapped from wheels to new ones later

For the stauns you have to drill your wheel to accept a secondary valve stem. Trailready makes double Beadlocks by using an inner clamp ring of the same design as the outer, the hutchinsons are functionally identical to the hhmwv military wheels in design

I saw a set of 20" car rims the other day at tire shop and they are double drilled!??!?? One hole is for a stem with stock tpms and the other is a filler. So one is in the middle of the rim. It says on them if tpms un used then just put in a standard stem. Lol. No problems drilling a new hole for the Staun stem

These two wheels are already drilled for dual valvestems. Sharp looking wheels, I'm contemplating them. There are others by other manufacturers as well!

Technically, if you want to be street legal, your beadlocks will have to carry DOT approval. But as with offroad lights, the chances of getting caught are minimal if you don't do stupid things. If you do get caught, it's a fixit ticket around here (CA), but then you still need another set of wheels/tires to get the ticket cleared. There are a few (very few) aftermarket wheels with DOT approvals, but rather expensive. And some tire shops won't mount or balance true beadlocks.

The factory rims are nice enough that it's one of the few stock wheels on vehicle I have no intention of replacing. Although if I did, the only wheel I would ever consider is the internal bead lock Hutchinson Rock Monster Wheels:

I like these wheels a lot but are they an appropriate backspacing for our trucks? I have a 2016 Laramie PW. I get confused with backspacing and offset. If these have +.39" of offset and are 8.5" wide then does that mean they have about 4.6" of backspacing? Don't our factory wheels have something like 6" of backspacing?

If the factory wheels are 8" wide with 6" of backspacing, one set would be sticking out about 2" farther than the stockers and the other would be sticking out about 1.25" farther than the stockers. I think

If I can figure out a way to swing the $$$ would love to have a set!!!! Should be just enough to get my tires off my control arms without going super wide and requiring body cutting!

They have multiple options not really listed on their website, I'm running the 5.28" backspace with 37x13.50 toyo mt's and they work awesome. Zero rub with 35's ever and minor rear wheel well trimming for the 37's on my 3rd gen. Can not praise them highly enough.

My Centerline wheels are 17x9 with 5.25" BS. With 35" Toyo's. They barely rub my stock control arm on my 3G.
