Softopper

Post by MOPARManiac » Thu Feb 07, 2013 6:35 pm

Anyone have any experience with the softopper or Bestop also makes a similar product?

http://www.softopper.com/

I am thinking of getting one for my PW. I think it would be rather handy as I could take it on and off with ease, but keeps things covered when I need too.

I seen a PowerWagon over in Laramie with one, it looked really sharp.

Over on DT SupaRice preferred it over the Bestop version.

Those Softtoppers look awesome!!! I've always liked that look! Also, I have always liked Canback, have you looked at them? They are $$$ but look to be super beefy and well made. I was planning to get one for my K5 when I had it. Their tops' frames are beefy enough to support a rack and a good bit of weight!

I pondered one of those for a while. Suparice said that his Bestop leaked like a sieve. Also the plastic windows eventually crack and get brittle in the cold. The Supertop is the way to go IMO. Fit, Form, Function. Pros: Less expensive than a new hard topper, no side windows to get brittle and crack, lightweight, easily removable, no drilling required, water RESISTANT, gives your truck the expedition look. Cons: (and reasons why I went hardshell) Can't lock it! (this is the big one for me as I usually have a variety of expensive cargo items back there at all times), Fades over time, Button snaps get rusty, velcro wears out, only water RESISTANT and not dry as a bone like a hard topper, no third brake light (required in some states) or interior dome light, not supposed to run it through a car wash, and it doesn't stand up well to heavy snowloads. Would I still buy one? If I hadn't of found my topper for $150.00..Yes

New winch cable, Winch TPS bypass, Cardan joint grease zerk discovery. New front grille assembly. Magnesium Chloride under coating.

If you ever happen to see me running somewhere, you should start running too. :)

I got the topper on, it looks great and I am impressed with the quality.

I have ran into a snag though. The rear is just tall enough that I can't back out of my shop door now. The ceiling in my shop is low enough that I can' t close the top. I think I will have to air down the rear tires to get backed out. I am hoping that I can back in the garage without having to take the top down and up. My shop door is bowed down a tad so it is really like 6'10" in the middle, but the garage door may be a tad taller. I sure wish I had 8' doors instead of 7 footers.

My shop is heated and I have been under the weather so I haven't tried to get it out yet. The top goes on very tight, so the longer it sits in the heated garage the better....it will allow it to stretch out some.

 Hope you get that to work without having to take it off every time you pull in/out of the garage. That will get old fast. New garage door/ headers?

I've been looking at getting one of those, just don't know if I'm ready to pull the trigger just yet. I'm planning on easing the wife into the outdoor world(only thing she has camped in is a 30ft Motor home  ) and one of these would be helpful sense I dont need a hard topper 90% of the time

I've had the best top for about a year now. It does okay. It hasn't leaked. It's easy to put down for offroading and loading loose material. It does give the truck a military look to it. My only gripe is the back window doesn't stay secured right at the tailgate. This hasn't caused any problems but it still bugs me.
