Re: The Cactus Red mod thread.
Replaced the well worn Bilstien steering stabilizer today. Since the Fox shocks are doing so well, decided to use their stabilizer too. It was an easy installation. It's hard to say how the two units would compare when new, but as is, the Fox is way stiffer than the Bilstien.

Re: The Cactus Red mod thread.
Well, it's now three weeks into repairing the lockers. After ordering a new Dumbar (two weeks to get it) they replaced it with no result. Next they say it's the wiring harness. Nuther wait to get that in, should arrive next week. Asked if they looked at the actuator in the rear diff, answer in a blank stare...
Part swapping in order of the diagram will eventually fix it.

Re: The Cactus Red mod thread.
Almost exactly 5 years ago, two DieHard Platinum batteries were put in the truck. Today I noticed the windows were sluggish, and after isolating the rear battery, found they were at 12.32 (front G65) and 12.30 (rear G31) volts after sitting all weekend.
Those batteries are no longer available at Sears. So, two Odyssey 65-PC1750T's have been ordered to replace them. They should work better together since they are identical in size.
My isolation system is simple, just a BlueSea's switch, and the batteries are combined virtually 100% of the time.

Re: The Cactus Red mod thread.
Good choice matching size. I know issues with the diesels if one Batt goes weak it kills the second. Matching sizes is also best if they are combined the majority of the time. Surprised the Sears batts have gone un available though. You must put those batts through a workout cycling them though

My buddy Dustin drew a picture of Cactus Red for me. Done in water color pens, it's a way cool rendition of the truck.

Re: The Cactus Red mod thread.
I'm at 20k + on the tires, and I expect to get to 30k before replacing them. At that point I would guess they will be under half tread depth. Tires went into service in Nov of 2015, so if they get me thru to this Nov, I'll be very pleased. Traction is still excellent, but they are starting to talk to me at highway speeds.

Re: The Cactus Red mod thread.
Greetings!
It's been a while...
We've joined the heavy towing club. Bought an Outdoors RV Black Rock 24KTS. If you haven't seen one, I'm not surprised. They are a small scale manufacture of truly capable trailers designed for off grid camping. Dry weight is 6900 lbs, but add in the 90 gallons of water, and that alone puts us at 7700 lbs.
So in the two trips we've towed it, my MPG average has been 6.1...
Have fun guys!

Re: The Cactus Red mod thread.
Congrats on the camper !
I would check your lockers out with the camper loaded up BEFORE you actually need them. I am not sure if it was cause my truck was new & lockers were not "worn in" yet, or because of the weight of the camper/torque on the axle, but mine did NOT want to engage for shit with our 10,500 lb toy hauler on. I ended up making it up the side of the mountain without them & never needed them again with the camper on. Thanks for reminding me, I will check it with our still kinda new (2016) downsized 3500 lb camper in the spring, upon first hook up. Keep an eye on rear axle temps. Your mpg is right about what I get with a heavy load.

Re: The Cactus Red mod thread.
Got 31000 miles out of the 315/70-17 Cooper ST Pros. All in all, they were an excellent tire. Very good traction, very tough sidewalls.
But, as part of now towing our new camper, I decided to go back to stock tires in a slightly less aggressive tread pattern. The truck is now wearing 285/70-17 Cooper ST Maxx's. Same carcass construction as the Pro's, I trust they will be as durable for us, and hopefully get a bit more power and MPG's over the larger tire.
