What's the best way to beef up my rear suspension/axle? Air bags won't allow much expansion without damage?

I need to stiffen it up. Getting too much roll. It's perfect t for off road all day but coming home it's too loose. Air bags? It's probably right on the payload max,#941. Looking at cradles and bags, different springs, remote compressor, and any suggestions.

I went with air lift 5000 ultimate bags and daystar cradles. Love em so far. Would get them again. Only thing i would change is i would spring for the onboard compressor and in-cab inflation. Not a big deal using the valve stems, but that would be pretty slick with in-cab fill/adjustments.

You want to stiffen your suspension so that you can get a better ride on rough roads? Alarm bells are ringing... I think you need to take a few minutes and type out a serious assessment of what's happening, and what you want to happen.

If you want better towing, downshift. If you want more payload, swap rear springs for standard 2500 coils or run air bags (Carli makes a long travel one or you can do like several others have and run traditional bags with Daystar cradles). If you want a better ride and better handling, put some Thuren shocks on it.

Thanks. It's ok Damage Wagon. I don't expect anyone to understand my job. I work on the pipeline. Serious 4x4 action on the RIGHT OF WAY here in Ohio. Then at night with the truck loaded driving on the paved over old wagon trails I need to take some roll out. Pulled a mechanic rig out yesterday. 34k like it was nothing. Pretty impressed.

How about some pictures? sounds like some impressive work using the winch?

When the trails get rough, I just slow down (slower than a walk); then the roll isn't so harsh - that is why I want a Power Wagon - for the softer ride in the rough stuff.

The back roads in SE Ohio are pretty tame compared to back woods WV. Mine is only squishy at speed on those roads. A different tire might help.

iBoom, one thing you might try now that we've been fiddling with MikeKey's truck is to disconnect your front swaybar and do your day's drive. See what you think. Might sound counterintuitive, but try it. His truck rolled all over the place because his front and rear swaybar a were fighting each other. We pulled the front bar and the ride is way better, the rolling is gone. If you're getting beat by rough roads, and you're a pipeliner, I'd recommend going in on some Thuren Kings. Where other guys are slowing down for a smoother ride, you're just going to want to go faster. Don Thuren is the man when it comes to shock valving, and as long as you're honest with exactly what you do and what you want, he will set you up with valving that will leave a huge grin on your face.

My solution was Load Lifter 5000 ultimate adjustable air helper springs with the internal jounce bumper / bumps stop by air lift. Part # 88289. I added the Wireless Air Advanced Integrated remote by Airlift as well. Part # 72000.

I started at 15lbs and instantly felt my insane roll disappear. I then backed it down in increments to 8 and I think that's a good compromise for ride and performance with my daily working payload of 800 lbs of fuel, 150 lbs of cooler and contents, and 350 in tools and clothing. Oh and my big ass.

Thanks for the ideas. And yes they are in Day star cradles. All I can say is wow.

Nice! I went with the same bags and cradles as well. I didnt get the compressor and wireless setup because I thought that would be a bit overboard for my minimal usage. But, after toting around a compressor and a having to air them up manually the last several times, I think I may spring for that setup after all. Does it work well? Any pics of your setup? Thanks!

I'm facing this same problem with my spare tire. Do not disconnect your front sway bar with that much weight in the back of your truck if you plan on driving highway speeds.
