Piece of crap windshield wipers.

Post by darwink1 » Mon Dec 24, 2012 1:52 am

So for a couple weeks now my wipers have been slow to start up and I usually have to either hit the washer or turn them to hi just to get em to go. Ive searched a bit on the forums and it seems that others also have this issue but there doesnt seem to be any fixes....

Couple posts Ive read suggest something about a software upgrade but that makes no sense at all to me. Wtf would the wipers be connected to the computer?? That seems more than a little stupid.

When they work they work fine so its not the motor. Both wipers move so its not the linkage. I checked the fuses and the dumbasses at dodge didnt bother to label the windshield fuse. I checked every fuse that had a W in it and none were burnt. So after driving home in the dark with a slushy, salty windshield and looking for fuses instead of sleeping after nightshift I turned the truck back on and they worked again. Awesome!

On the way back to work last night they seemed to work intermittantly and would stop in the middle of the windshield once in a while. I had to mess with the switch to get em going again.

This is getting a little tiring man. I should have kept my 20yr old land cruiser, the wipers worked great on that thing and it was ancient. Why the hell did I buy this pile???

If anyone has any suggestions feel free to share them before I pour gas on it and burn the pos.

Thanks

My money says it is the controller on the steering wheel &/or its wiring or the motor. :poke: But if you do pour gas on it & burn the pos, take lots of pics & post em up !!! Have it checked out by a dealer, i think there was some type of recall on either the motor or the controller. Your not the first person to have this issue. When posting up with a problem you should give some details about your truck. Year & any mods pertaining to the problem. Like a steering issue then if you have a lift would be important.

One of my rams did that. Was a park position sensor inside the wiper motor... No issues after that.

Yeah, I was a little fired up when I wrote that...

06 pw, no electrical mods besides led lights behind the grille and a disconnected winch power cable (was draining the battery).

Reason I was frustrated was that after reading a bunch of posts it seems that the stealer identifies one of 4 problems (resistors, wiper motor link assy (why the f#$k is that one piece????), the switch thingie in the column, or the tpimsqc something or other), proceeds to change the parts only to have the wipers quit again soon there after. Someone also suggested that its the connector under the cowl and after they taped it up to seal it against moisture the wiper problem went away.. I just want to figure this out once and be done.

Issues like this shouldnt pop up, I mean jesus the auto industry has had more than enough time to figure out how to make working wipers. Am I expecting too much?

So let me guess, that sensor isn't replaceable unless you buy the motor, linkage, new tires and a space shuttle right?

The wipers in my unrestored 69 fj40 land cruiser work better than the pw ones lol. Just figured Id throw that in there....

Mine had this happen twice (Many times ) but twice I fixed it, or the deal did. First time it was under warranty, second time I paid for it, and now it has not happened in years. It is a control module. Nothing to do with the Motor, or control arm. What year is yours? Mine is an 06.

also any Power wagon, no matter what issues they have, is better than an FJ. FJ stands for Fake Jeep. Just saying. Real 4x4 trucks, jeeps, ATV,s have to and need to be worked on, it is what brings the Vehicle and the owner together to become one...

Fake heap?? lol. If you knew what you were talking aboud youd be dangerous (not an fj looser, an fj40 land cruiser).

I realize that you have to work on trucks since Ive owned/built a couple few but Ive never had windshield wipers go on any of em. Like I said before my 40 some yr old land cruiser wipers work fine, my other 28 yr old land cruiser wipers work fine, my old 1993 80 series wipers worked fine, my old 2000 tacoma wipers worked fine..... Never had a problem with any of them. Never had an issue with the manufacturer using too short, too thin gague wiring throughout the vehicle either just to save a couple bucks. Theres a difference between replacing u joints/brakes/balljoints or what have you and fixing crap that should have never broken....

Maybe its beacuse Im used to older toyotas that were actually made well. I havent been fixing misc. BS on domestics so Im not used to it.

Yaya dealer eh. The bastards wanted 380$ some odd dollars to fix a broken wire and some some corrosion on a couple others. That was after they suggested a new wiper motor. F that bs, my buddy fixed them for 2 beers lol.

Rat bastard dealers can go s.a.d!!
