It wont be a mistake.

Have you test driven a regular Ram 2500? If not, do that for sure as there should be some around you area. It will give you the basic idea. While you are driving down the road getting a feel for it, just try to picture the ride being a fair bit better.

And if you want a swiss army knife of a truck, well then you are on the right path  In stock form it might not do everything perfectly, but it will pretty much do everything. Plus, like you said, upgrading to make it your own and suite your needs better is half the fun!

My biggest issue for taking the plunge to get this truck was not because I couldn't decide if I wanted it, but because I didnt really like the idea of getting rid of my Jeep to get it. But, I have zero regrets! I love this thing!

just to be clear, i know i put the emphasis on ride comfort but that is not what im buying the vehicle for. the PW has checked all the important boxes for me. the only box left is the one for does it ride better than my SD. as ive said i am not looking for caddy smooth i just dont want to have another harsh bouncy ride. I want to enjoy the long road trips with my family and the SD makes it tough with the horrible ride. the PW would be used for what its built for. i know it will do great off road and also get me to work in bad snow storms. its checked all the other boxes easily.

I'm still in favor of doing as many test drives as possible - I was all fired up on getting an EcoDiesel until I test drove a few (I also did a lot of reading on some of those forums). After a couple test drives and reading more & more about this latest generation of Power Wagons, and test driving a couple PW I am 100% certain a PW is what I want.

The beauty of this forum is you can take lots of test drives through the eyes of current owners. Obviously I take all things with a grain of salt, but still I'm 100% sure these new PW's are the most capable vehicles. One of these years I will get one also, but am very satisfied with my 03 for now.....

Happy shopping!

I've owned 1 ferd, 3 chebys, 2 nissans, and 2 dodges. The ferd, and chebys lasted about 2 years. The one nissan lasted 5 years, and the other one lasted 9 years and 130,000 miles. Got rid of it because it rusted out. My last truck was my first Dodge. A '99 1500 4x4. It lasted 9 years and 130,000 miles. An alternator and both front axle u-joints I replaced at 100,000 miles. Now have an '08 PW with 64,000 miles. I've beat on this truck, but have taken care of it too. Only had 2 major things happen to it. A steering box went bad in Moab, and a rear brake caliper froze up. Thing that was from running in creeks. I've been happy with the PW. If I ever get another truck. It will most likely be another PW.

Yes, like MikeKey said, buy mine. :) I'd even consider bringing it to you for the right price. I'm in Oklahoma. Since I know what I'm looking to replace it with, maybe the truck I want is there in NY and while I bring you mine, I'll buy what I want and drive it back. Two birds one stone.

O ok. Thanks but I am looking for something newer and with under 30,00 miles if I happen to go used.

I know everyone says just buy it and I'll be happy. I am at that stage as I am not that worried about a test drive anymore. Just trying to get a decent deal on one. Once I find the right deal wether it be new or a used one with the options I want I will take the plunge. I haven't found anyone willing to make me a good deal on a new one yet and the payment offered so far has been a little higher than I anticipated and willing to pay. No one so far is budging too much on price.

Totally understandable, I was in the same exact boat as you a matter of two or so years ago when I was looking my current one. You have two basic types of dealerships when it comes to powerwagons, the ones that know what a Powerwagon is and how rare they are, and the ones who have no clue. If buying used, try and find that one that doesn't know what a PW is, like I scored with my current one. They priced it as a regular 2500. I jumped on it, flew to GA, and scored it and drove it home with a grin on my face knowing I already had equity in it. :)

Yeah that's kinda what I'm looking for in the used market. I've seen a couple that I thought were good deals used but they didn't have my must have options.

Also, there are two types of used pw's. Ones that were owned by owners who used the truck for what it was made for, and ones whos owners used the truck for getting ice cream on Sunday.

If you are buying one with under 30k i would think most of them would be pretty well kept. But not always.

As a note on the quality of these rigs:

My truck was owned my the US Govt near Ruidoso, New Mexico for 120,000 miles and was run HARD. I have a spotlight up front, heavy Ranch Hand bull bars, and a gun rack on the headliner. It has a gooseneck hitch and 6,000 engine hours. I have all of the maintenance records and the only things replaced on it were the shocks - 6 times. The only repair was that the front driveshaft let go at the CV joint, flung around under the cab which thankfully only tore up a little insulation material, and which grenaded the transfer case. So they replaced the transfer case and front shaft with Mopar parts. EVERYTHING else is stock. My front control arms are effing GONE, but they still boogie just fine. I can grab an upper control arm when parked and clunk it side to side with a finger. GONE. the only upgrade I have done so far is out on an older-style Carli Trackbar and tightened up the control arm bolts. It drives like a new truck. The front springs are sacked out, every body panel has dents or dings, there are holes for lights and antenna mounts everywhere, but everything is still good to go. My only continued issue is that the engine has an occasional harmless misfire which I think I will have fixed this weekend with a $10 sensor.

Overall I can tell that all they did to this rig was change the fluids and run it hard, and it has held up. The lockers work like a charm now that I cleaned the magnets and installed FilterMags. The swaybar works even after I tore it apart and found it packed with dried mud.
http://forum.powerwagonregistry.org/vie ... +of#p73734

I wouldn't be too particular when looking at these trucks, unless you are fixed on your reasons. But I bought mine to be run hard, often. It's going to be our sole home for 3-4 months off road. I hope this helps you to find one that makes you happy!

P.S. No squeaks or rattles either Image

Pull the trigger! I'm a Jeep guy, have owned nine and decided after my GMC was totaled due to a manufacturer defect that I would get my PW. After owning one for 1500 miles I will say it has good and bad:

Good:
It's a panty dropper, people actually take pictures of it before they get in their GM or Ford.
Ride isn't bad but not like my Denali was.
13.1 miles a gallon thus far, my JKU gets 9 so not complaining.
MAKES A RAPTOR LOOK LIKE A TOY TRUCK.

Bad:
It's a panty dropper so if you are married the wife might not like it.
Haven't tried the 4 wheel drive yet.
She's currently way to clean

I sent 12 different emails to dealerships all over the US and had four reply back with an offer close to what I wanted to pay. My PW has the 8.4 screen power tow mirrors upgraded seats bed liner and a few other "options", it was stickered at almost 61k, I purchased it for 42,683 plus tt&l great deals are out there but you have to do the work.

Good luck!

I am still working on getting one but my searching slowed down with the holidays. Going to hit it hard next week as I just saw a white one online and I love the way it looks with all the black contrast!

I got one dealer offering invoice and available incentives. I know there is about a 3% dealer holdback after invoice but is my deal pretty much the best most people are getting? Still got to get trade numbers tho.

Got close to pulling the trigger at another dealer but they tried pulling a quick one on me with my trade in price and dropped it 5k after dropping the PW price by another 3k off their original 2k off. They failed to mention that the trade in price changed when they changed their price. I'm done at that dealer. I didn't like them anyway but they were my local dealer so it would of been convienient to use them.

Dealers are scum bags. You have to play them. They need you more than you need them anyways. They have A LOT riding on selling vehicles.

If you can get a better deal in writing from the other dealership or trade value, take it back to the first guys who are local, and then ask them how much more they want your business and if they can do better.

A friend of mine pitted 3 dealerships in his area against each other to get 10k below invoice on his Tundra that way and get what he wanted on his trade. The second one gave him a better deal than the first and the third gave him a better deal than the second. Then went back to the first to show the third deal and they beat it.

Hey man,

Sorry I missed your reply to my post on p2.
(Former Raptor owner)

I picked up a loaded 2016 Laramie PW. Got about 18% off or so total.
If you are thinking new, you ought to be at the dealerships tonight or tomorrow (End of year). Maybe they can still deal early next week ?
Chevy guys keep asking what size lift it's got. They can't believe it's stock.

Good luck !

No comparison to the PW in any measurable metric.

1. Had 2006 F250 King Ranch Diesel, 20" wheels, 325 BFG's, 5" free flow cat and muffler delete exhaust, manual hubs, floor shifter, and 3.73 rear. Drove from Cocoa Beach, Fl to Fairbanks, AK, it was brutal, the truck squatted with weight in the bed. Installed Firestone bags before I left AK, helped the load bearing. Truck was heavy, miserable off road, and routinely wouldn't start in the winter. Truck cost me lots of $$. Got rid of it in 2012.

2. Ordered 2012 F150 Larait, w/ 3.73, locking rear, ecoboost, etc, hated it, better off road than the F250, had several warranty issues, service people were a-holes, so I bailed and started the search to replace it.

3. Test drove several GMC & Chevys, a Raptor, and then a few 1500 & 2500 Dodge trucks. Chevys road nice, but felt like a car or small SUV, knew it wouldn't behave worth a damn off road, it's a snowplow, ask Vanished :poke: . The Raptor was such a joke for the $, I asked the yahoo dealer I found with one on the lot if I could test it off road during the test drive, he laughed at me and said I can't let customers take a near $60k truck off road, then I laughed at him and said anyone who pays $60k for a ½ ton with a fox suspension and slightly bigger factory v8 is an idiot, so I left in my turd F150, called a dodge dealer & ordered a 1500 Laramie, loved it, until me & the dealer realized they ordered the wrong options, so they took it back after driving it a few months, & that's about the time when the PW order system was opened for new model orders, so I switched from a 1500 to a 2014 PW & haven't looked back.

Then again, you already knew all this from the previous 2+ pages of replies from the rest of the mob.
