BFG KRAWLER
hey guys im wondering if any of you have ever ran, or know someone else who has ran the BFG KRAWLER. Im looking at putting it in a 37“ size on my pw. Two questions: the most important first, whats the expected mileage one them? Second question, how are they in hard clay and general dirt? No rocks here, and im advoiding mud for a bit. Thanks.

There are two types of Krawlers, a Blue and Red label. The Red's are the sticky comp tire, and are designed to wear quickly. The Blues are the street legal version. I've got a freind here that runs a set of the 35/13.5-15's on his Jeep Cherokee. He's had them for years and they are wearing OK, but it's pretty much a 100% trail rig - the only pavement it sees is to and from trails. As for how they do, here's a pic that is worth a 1000 words. Not that much else did better...
And people don't think AZ has mud.
This is our typical mesa top basalt clay - litteraly only a few inches deep after a hard rain. You cans see how it sticks like freakin' glue. Might as well be on grease.

thanks mark. Yalls mud is similar to ours, the only diff being ours has no bottom. Im looking into the blue (harder compound) to go on my pw. Ive looked online and im seein people getting about 20k-30k out of them if there rotated reguarly. Like all tires, i think rotation is VERY important. If i can get 20k out of them ill be happy. Thats probaly close to two years. Ive run tsl,swamper,bogger,micky t claw, ground hawg, mickey t baja belted, and the old style bfg mt. Like i said before im looking at 60%-70% on the road, but at the same time im going to use my truck. If not i would have bought a prius.
on a nother subject, I cant aford any more chains! Romney.

If you're rock crawling every weekend then the Crawlers might make sense. But they are expensive, wobble and probably won't wear near as long as something like Toyo MT's. Those tires are bombproof and are the tire of choice of the Carli crowd.

I had 35-12.5-15 on my Jeep Wrangler a few years back. They wear ok and not great if you do a lot of highway driving. Offroad they are great . I sold my jeep before i wore down the tires but you should be able to get 20K on the mileage without any problems if you get the street version. IMO, I would look for a different tire for the type of driving your doing.

preciate it guys. I guess a allterain would do i just dont like being undertired / unprepaired. The toyo looks good but i think ill go with the krawler and hope for 20/30k out of them.

I agree with not being under tired. I drive A LOT of highway miles for my job but just can't stand the idea of getting stuck or struggling down a trail because of my tires. I went from the BFG ATs to Goodyear Wrangler Territories (a Canadian Tire exclusive in Canada that are kind of half way between an AT and a MT) and am thinking for my next set to go with either Toyo MTs or the Cooper STTs.hunter2500pw wrote:preciate it guys. my thoughts exactaly. Ive tried to run all terains before and i wasnt happy at all once the pavement ended; and i was only slightly happier with the regular mud tires. What i wish for is a radial tire with the tread made out of tough rubber that would be long lasting. The millatary michillian xzl is perfect but only comes in 16“ & 20“ rim sizes. I guess i just need to come to terms personaly that im the type to never be satisfied with the compromise of long life tires. If i could afford it i would run boggers and tsls from now on. But i cant do a couple grand for 5-8k miles. If the krawlers will net me 20-25k i can live with that.

Have you considered the BFG KM2s? They are basically Krawler technology that has been civilized for better road manners. I am currently running them and they are definitely tougher and perform better off road than the BFG AT KOs, while still having good road manners.

yea i was origianaly looking at the BFG MT but what i found about mileage between the two is that they are very close. The only gain i see versus the KRAWLER will be smother ride, and im not to concerned with that. The KRAWLERS have got to be smoother than tsls. And on a big truck like my pw the weight (about 7300lbs) should help smooth them out. Mainly the only two things im woried about are mileage and off road. We know they are great off road, better than a reg mt. The mileage doesnt sound so much different either. Ive run the old style BFG MT and only got about 25k out of them and 35k out of BFG AT. So… the real question is, if the mileage im hearing on the KRAWLER is true (and after some research i beleave it is) why should someome settle for less tire in the form of a M/T or A/T? I just hate slideing around off road because i chose to go with less tire. Besides the pws look best well shod.

Also running km2's and happy with them, however there are a few on here that aren't...

what mileage are you getting from the MTs? How are the compared to the old style BFG MTs?

My 35" Toyo MT's are at about 31,000 and look fine. I'll get another 6-8K out of them, but may replace them sooner because I don't like mud and snow with thin tread blocks. They'll be fine on pavement..

Too new to tell for me, only 5k or so on them and still like new.. sorry never ran the old style.

thank yall for the info. The toyo mts are lookin better and better to me. I agree on running tires without much tread left. A mud tire low on tread is almost like a street tire. The 37“ toyo mts are about $600 cheaper a set than the Krawlers to…

I am running the bfg km2's with no problem. i only run them in the summer and have 30,000 miles on mine never have had a problem with them other than having a hawthorn tree puncture the RF tire and i may get most of next summer out of the tires yet too. Imho they are a good tire traction is great they wear good and even (mine run at 43psi) and have great road manners. When mine are NFG i will be getting another set.
