2014 power wagon new tires bigger size

Post by 14wagon86 » Thu Nov 10, 2016 12:16 pm

Hey guys I have a 2014 power wagon and it is time for new tires and of course I need bigger. I have read lots about what tire size will fit and what will not. I would like guys with 2014 or newer power wagons to really confirm what the biggest size tire I can run on a factory setup without cutting the fenders?? I don't want rub and I would like to run a 35 inch tall tire but I am worried about the 12.5 width rubbing on full lock to lock turns?? thanks in advance guys!!

JBW.....are the 35 Toyo's true 35x12.5 or metric?? because the true 35x12.5 are actually 13.2 inches wide under full inflation...

No problem i only test drove it with the stock tires, but can't really tell a difference other than its a tad taller. Not any rougher or louder.

So i was just having this same question on my 2016 Power Wagon Laramie. Did it feel less squishy when you went from D's to E's? Also, do you think you could still fit S-Class chains on the front or rear? I'm thinking of switching out to 35/12.5/17 but in the Toyo RT to firm it up to E's for when i tow but I'm slightly worried about chain clearance.

I would think there would be plenty of room for chains unless you really flexed it out. From my limited time on stock tires there is less roll in the corners

I was looking at getting a set of S-Class cables and a set of square link chains. Cables for rear when i need something light... square link for the rear when I'm of road and in the nasty stuff. Theb putting chains on the rear and cables on the front if it's really slick out. Chains obviously aren't S-Class. How much room is on the inside once the tires widen out?

Even with normal square link chains? I'd like to run cables in the front and square link on the rear. Then i can use cables or chains on the rear depending on situation or cables on the front and chains on the rear when its really nasty. With the wider tires is there clearance issues on the back if the tire to the breaklines etc?

I'm running Toyo AT2 extreme in 305/70/17. love these sofar. plenty of room, definitly could have gone to 35 on my 2016. just spent a week with them elk hunting and they work great offroad. also very smooth on pavement. big improvement over stock duratracs.

careful if you use chains with those tires. when chains develop snow, ice, and mud, they can really be sloppy and thrash your components.

Thanks for those pics. I had 35/12.5R17 Toyo RT's put on today. Drives so much better! No rubbing. I can only describe it as more grounded and less floaty. I think these trucks are just too heavy for D's. No more body roll when cornering.

As for chain fit, it looks like the front is tight if you get a chain that wraps around too far down the side wall. Like a camlock should be okay. The rear seems to have room for days. Thanks for all the effort and the pics!!! Really helped!

By the looks of that picture, it appears the tire rubs the sway bar from time to time, which i would highly expect with stock wheels and the wide of a tire.

Not saying it won't hit track bar, but I haven't yet. I'm in south Arkansas so not a lot of opportunities for chains. Did a little flexing last weekend trying to get it to rub so far nothing. Looks like for my use "mostly mud & a few rocks" I made a good choice in size.

What I was referring to is the sway bar... the tire will never get to the track bar. That picture of the front wheel turned, it looks like there is some paint wore off the sway bar right where your tire "would" hit. That is the common place for rubbing.

None the less, yea that is a perfect sizer tire for a stock wagon!
