6.4 intake tube

Post by Boomerttl » Tue Nov 01, 2016 9:47 pm

Anyone know of anybody making an air intake tube that will fit the factory air box for the 6.4 yet? Just the tube, not the whole after market cai air box.

I looked around online but didn't see anything, I have a 5.7 so I can't say for sure but in pictures the 6.4 looks like it has a short straight tube, I'm not sure what an aftermarket replacement would do has far as improving performance.

I guess i am just a little lost here.... why would you want to replace just the tube?

The basic concept is to provide a straight tube from the air filter box, remove the resonator, and go directly to the throttle body. In theory you would get less airflow resistance and a few extra HP and better throttle response while still having the good filtering careerists of the OEM filter and filter box.

For example on a 3 Gen 5.7 Hemi:

Some of the aftermarket intake manufacturers have posted before and after dyno numbers - so a small increase in peak hp is obtained. But this apparently comes with a significant increase in intake noise under load at higher rpm's - so much so that many people pull them back off thinking that the additional power is not worth the loud intake howl. Perhaps if you and your passengers are hard of hearing then it wont matter. :run:

The intake noise is why I put the intake tube on my 5.7

I had an AEM Cold Air Intake on my 2004 Ram and HATED the extra noise I got from it. I honestly couldn't tell if you if I gained any HP, but I sure gained a lot of noise. If I had kept that truck longer I would have gone back to the factory setup.

x2 I removed my aftermarket intake for the same reason the noise got old after awawhile, the resonator is there for a reason.

If you just run the tube and keep the factory air box it isn't near as loud as the complete CDI system
