18 mpg

18 mpg from Kremling to Denver in traffic. Not bad. Averaged 15 mpg driving around back roads between Craig and Yampa. Too bad the rain didn't hit unto I got to the pavement. Some of these might have been fun. Not a bad day at work.

Must be downhill all the way or else reading is set to metric. If that's for real....what's the secret? :secret:

There some downhill. :) I think Kremlling is 8'000' or so, went over Berthoud pass around 11'000 than it's mainly downhill to Denver. I was keeping the rpm up a lot on the climbs, and my foot to the floor. And I paid for the toll lane so I didn't get stuck in our typical weekend stop and go traffic once I got on I-70. I got 15 on the drive out to Craig on highway 40 and a variety from two track to pavement back. That's what I have been getting on my commute as well.

With the smaller motor and tall O/D the PW definitely does better on the highway than my Avalanche. It drops quickly around town though. Good power on the back roads, I just hit tow haul and it runs nice.

I've averaged 18mpg on a couple 500+ mile trips in mine. The secret is ethanol free gas and lots of miles under 60mph. I generally average around 15-16 mpg but I don't drive with a heavy foot and I don't use it to commute to work or run to the store.

Ive got almost 4k miles on mine now. Never seen above 14 average when cruising empty. Get just under 9 towing our travel trailer. I think i could muster 15 or 16 on a slow trip when empty.

Have fun through that road construction? All 11 miles of it? (that's gonna suck in the winter this year...)

Pic kinda unrelated. 12350, plus another 60-ish ft AGL...

i lived in denver and elk hunted years around kremmling. 18 is quite possible, but it won't last in long term numbers. the top of berthoud pass to denver is like a gazillion mpg though. and berthoud down to fraizer is 1/2 gazillion mpg.

Went through Winter Park/Berthoud Pass to avoid it. Got caught in it on the way to a meeting in Rifle a few months ago when Vail Pass was closed. That was a long day.

I think we need to start a "Real MPG Thread" and see what the lowest average we can all get is. My average is 8.6

There are lots people on the forum that have gotten 18mpg with the 6.4 including myself but... I'm usually closer to 17.5
I'm not sure how I would have to drive an unloaded truck to make it only get 10mpg. I could start by lowering tire pressure down to 40 psi :D

Sheesh how many miles are on your trucks that are getting that kind of mpg?? I averaged mid 14s driving from Boise back to LA when I bought mine. Been down between 12-13 since I've been home with mixed driving in town, through canyons to the beach and in 405 traffic today.

Yeah same here. Im hoping with a little more miles on the truck the MPG will go up a bit... but I highly doubt it.

5500. I really only get 14-15 on my normal commute. So far I only drop below with 4 wheeling or towing. (8 mpg towing.)
