Re: New Rig
If you hear anything let me know!
Went out and messed around today. Tried cycling the smart bar, tried locking/unlocking with the bar locked/unlocked. Tried different speeds, steering, light acceleration, different gears, reverse. Couldn't find a magic formula for the front locker. I did get it to engage three times, each taking about three-five minutes of driving to engage. It seems to unlock fairly reasonably (I was in some loose soil/light mud, but with the narrow Duratracs and the weight of the truck, I would expect some binding). I didn't mess with the rear, turned it on once I got on the soft stuff, engaged in a few yards, left it on. Disengaged once I hit high range.
I know I am spoiled with the ARBs, but I had a very particular formula with them (both in a front Dana 44 and a front Dana 60 in my second gen.) Make sure the compressor is on, and has cycled at least once (indicating the system is charged appropriately). Ensure there is no wheel spin. Hit the switch, ease into the throttle to avoid a crash lock situation. Approach the obstacle as required. Takes about 5-10 seconds. I disengage as soon as the traction improves to reduce stress on the steering.

Re: New Rig
I meant disconnect and reconnect the smart bar electrical connectors under the truck.
Re: New Rig
That makes sense too.

Re: New Rig
My lockers lock instantly with 1/4 turn of the diff. I doubt I'll even use the lockers in 4Hi but the bypass is worth it just to make the system work as it should.
Re: New Rig
This is the way mine is with the bypass too. Before mine would lock up but it'd take a awhile. Definitely worth the money even if I use the locker(s) in hi or 2hi once without getting stuck.Reloaderguy wrote:My lockers lock instantly with 1/4 turn of the diff. Re: New Rig
One of the guys that works here has a Power Wagon axle under his Jeep, he took the locker apart and got it to work like an ARB by cutting half of a coil out of the spring, shortening it. Then the magnet doesn't have to pull so hard. He was having issues with the locker engaging before it was even under the Jeep, using a 12v source to activate it. He said it was pretty easy to fix. I need to get a bypass for our PW anyway, but we're going to cut the spring if it doesn't engage immediately. That's annoying.
