Running 315/70/17 will work on the stock rim with Radius arms. I was thinking of running 35X12.50R17LT Toyo Open Country ATII's. Despite being labeled 35's they're actually 34.5"

My other thought was to run General Grabber AT/II's in 315/70/17 as they're a little cheaper and overall are 34.4" for comparison the BFG KO's are also 34.4" in that size.

While 37's are awesome sauce, depending on usage I feel 35 is a better tire for overall performance. 37's you are taking a power hit, mpg hit, adding even more rotational mass weight, etc.

Exactly. On the surface 37" tires look like an easy fit...and they are. But, if you've ever given a mouse a cookie you know he's going to ask for a glass of milk. And chances are, if you give him a glass of milk, he's going to ask you to read him a story...

One of our 3500s srw is running the grabber at2 in that size. We have been very happy with them. Good traction. Decent in muddy tracks. Clean out well. Roll round. There is about 30k km on them and about 35-40% wear. A bit better than the old bfg overall. You would be happy with that choice.

Olyelr I don't mind your yellow fun truck. It's not near as bad as chebys. Looks like you enjoyed it

I'm running a 285/75/17 Toyo A/T II on my 2012 and I'm really happy with them. I can still run tire chains in the winter and not worry about rubbing issues.

Yeah, if you want absolute no rub at full stuff and turning, I would choose the 285's over the 315's just to be safe. Also, I dont know where you are from or if you encounter snowy roads, but 285's would be a much better choice over the 315's just for that sole purpose too. Only downfall is there is a limited tire selection in that size.

Wouldn't a 35" tire still knock your mpg down a decent bit and cause more downshifting? I want to run 35's badly but with me putting 4,500-5,000 miles a month on my truck I can't kill my current 12.4 mpg overall average.

A lot depends on WHICH 35" tire you go with. Wider, heavier, knobbier tires make for worse rolling resistance, which will reduce MPG. If you go with a mellow 35" tire (like a Yokahama AT or something) you will most likely not notice too much of difference. Go with a wide mud tire that weighs a ton, then yeah you will surely kill some MPG.

Yes indeed, they would. But I feel that the 35's are the better compromise if you want a bigger tire without the heavy hit of the 37's. The hit will be lesser to a degree. But it's a hit none the less.

If you consider the stock tire is a 33 and you're moving to a 34.4-inch tire, that's just a hair over a 1-inch difference vs a 4 inch difference.

You'd just have to consider if that compromise is worth it for you or not. Someone can correct me, but I believe 315's tend to run a bit smaller than tires that are actually labeled 35x12.5. I had a set of Nitto Trail Grapplers on a previous rig in 315/70/17 on Method Double Standards and they were actually 34 even. It seems a lot of tires don't run true to size. I know the BFG's tend towards smaller mounted than what they say they are.

I tow a lot every month too, so I'm still rolling this debate. Staying stock is probably the best, but slightly larger would be nice. Especially off-road. Decisions I suppose.

285/75/17 is a good compromise size. But limited tires have that. But there are a few good ones. Width is a big player in losing mpg. Way more rolling resistance. The 285/70/17 and the 285/75/17 will be nearly identical with the 75 profile being a small amount longer in the on road tread contact. And it's about an inch and some taller being I believe 33.8" tall if I recall correctly. The 285/70 stock tires are actually only 32.7". 315/70/17 is about 34.4" and a 35x is usually about 35" give or take a bit. Depending on manufacture it changes but the Math comes to about that.

How much of a difference does 35's make on a manual shift 3rd Gen ? I can't believe that i would get much worse than the 8-10 mpg i am getting now ?

Same. Maybe better on highway. 06 with automatic got slightly better on 35's. According to the readout it was the same but I never adjusted to the tire size. So it was about 10% better.

I like those tires. I was thinkin bout gettin those when my duratrac wear out. How do those 315s fit? Do they rub? The bfg's I had on my '10 rubbed alittle. Keep us posted on how those tires wear for ya.

285 is the width, the 70 and 75 are essentially the height (the sidewall height being the percentage of the width). So they should have the same tread contact.
