I am looking at making a purchase of a '16 SLT PW. I'm coming from a '12 Raptor Super Crew.

Anyone else here make the change from Ferd to Ram? Your thoughts? I've only had experiences with Ford and Toyota in the past.

Thanks and great looking rigs!
I came from a 2012 FX4 screw. So far the Ram has much nicer interior, has less squeaks and creaks, and seems overall much more solid. I had so many dealer visits and issues with the Ford that my binder of service records was around an inch thick.

Time will tell though, as I've only had the power wagon for a week or so!

So I'm a newbie here and a newbie to the Power Wagon. I just ordered my 2016 Laramie Power Wagon yesterday it will be about 6 to 8 weeks until I get it. My question is has anyone added the AMP Research power steps? If so what do you think of them? I am also thinking about upgrading right away to 35's. Are there any other mods that ya'll recommend right off the bat?

Welcome to the group!

35" tires are pretty much plug and play on the latest generation truck...

If you want to get useful upgrade suggestions, then you may need to provide some additional detail on how you plan to use your truck... If you will be carrying or towing anything of any size, then there may be some rear suspension upgrades that will help out. If you plan on offroading on rough terrain, then you may want to consider passing on the power steps and getting some rock sliders...

Good day

Im the proud owner of a 2010 Powerwagon. I bought it in 2013 although my dream truck is a '48. I have added skid plates undercoating to the bottom 1/3 and switched my rims to 22s and tires to 35s put a tonneau cover on it also chrome wind deflectors as well as had purple and pink under coat so it sparkles in the sun. This is bought and paid for by myself (I don't need a man) lol. Putting a new 5.7 in as she didn't swim so well so looking forward to another couple hundred thousand km of usage!!!!

Hey everyone! Finally got my registration email to come through. I just traded my 2011 PW in for a 2015 Laramie PW. Been a hard core Chevy guy until I bought that first PW. Always wanted one but held off until they came out with the the bigger cab. Now I love them and I'll pry never buy another style pickup! The PW is way more than I need but it's awesome having that ability to go wherever whenever. I won't use my rig as hard as some of you guys do but it really helps when I'm way of the beaten path huntin and fishin. My rig won't be to modded up but I'm thinkin about gettin the locker bypass for sure. Been reading up on it and it'd be great to use in 4hi. Something the factory should have done from the word go. Anyways. Glad to be here and glad to see a great community comin together for these awesome trucks!

I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to trade but now after three weeks I have absolutely no regrets. The ride is better and the dash layout it amazing. The power difference from the 5.7 to the 6.4 is really noticeable too. Better throttle response and low end torque. The main thing is that the ride is so much better. Actually rides like my old 08 Silverado but this PW is way better than that Silverado could ever dream of bein.

Raptor Or Power Wagon

Post by FordyceCreekTrail » Sun Apr 17, 2016 9:13 pm

Hi everyone. Hope this is the right place, did not see any more active Power Wagon Forums out there. Nothing active like the Raptor Forums anyways. Anyhow my 2005 Titan is getting a bit long in the tooth. Its been a good truck but look what has come out since! Anyhow, been planning on a 2017 Raptor for a couple of years. However, the New Power Wagon really grabbed my eyes at the auto show, probably by changing the ugly as sin Chrome grill and adding more classic graphics. Certainly we are talking two quite different vehicles, one designed to go very fast off-road, and one designed to go on the trail more where it can fit. IE: Slow. As much fun as a Raptor would be, it is quite possible for work and play the Power Wagon would be better. I guess my biggest concerns are reliability and gas mileage. Certainly the new Raptor has some real untested components and has risk as well. I dont buy a new truck but every 12yrs or so, so it needs to be the right choice.

Hi fordyce! My truck is an 09 so I don't have much experience with this latest generation but it seems most people are happy with them. The frame and axles/drivetrain dwarf the raptors. Much more of a truck in that respect. And if speed is important to you, and you want to drop the coin you can keep up with or beat a raptor at speed off-road with just bolt on parts. These are very versatile vehicles and there's nothing else like them out there really. Gas mileage for either will not be great but should be manageable if you're not hooning around town. My truck has never had a major problem and has been quite reliable. The raptor is a cool truck but it's very limited focus makes it a one trick pony (but what a trick! lol) and the pw is a jack of all trades. Both are cool trucks and I'd own both if I could, but since I can't afford it I went with a pw and spent some money to make it go fast as well. Whatever way you go good luck!

Powers can be made fast offroad so you can have your cake and eat if too.... A lot of bolt In kits by Thuren or Carli can smoke a stock raptor as well... And like Tim mentioned you've got better axles beefier everything and the frames are top notch^^^ http://youtu.be/fWkHnccCCNM

I realized I never properly introduced myself with anything more than a picture of my truck, so here goes: I am a career Army infantryman who is about to retire. I live in Washington, but we are planning on fulltime travel in our Casita trailer pulled by my 07 PW. I have owned over 90 cars trucks and bikes, but never a PW that ran. As a child of 80s TV, of course my favorite truck was the 79 PW on Simon and Simon. I have owned a few off road rigs and have lots of offroad experience all over the world. All I can say is WOW, I wish I could have had a PW sooner. I love the looks on jeepers faces when I run the same trail they just struggled on. Thanks for having me!

Welcome... I did both of those upgrades within a week of owning my wagon... I've had zero issues with the AMP power boards but I'm in the south (Georgia) and we don't get all the cold weather and snow like some of the others... I've had no issues with my boards not working after being in the mud... Only thing I've had happen is a large rock got tossed up on the board, in the up position, and when I opened the door it jammed between the board and rocker panel and the board wouldn't come down... Was a simple fix and probably couldn't get the right sized rock like that again... They tuck up really high on the wagon and you really can't even tell they are on there... 35's fit with ease on the 14+ trucks...

Test drove a god awful Red on Chrome grill Mexican drug dealer PW today. No real surprises I guess, its big, heavy and you know it. Handled very nicely, particularly for how high off the ground you are. Did not realize they have an old fashioned t/case shifter, imagine that. Growing more concerned about how wide the Raptor is for every day wheeling.....12.5mpg on dash

Hello all. Just purchased my first PW. It's a silver 2007 Laramie. I transitioned from a Wrangler Rubicon to a Tacoma, now to the PW. The Tacoma just wasn't enough truck and I really enjoyed the rubi and think the PW can hopefully fill the void. First plan is to remove the 6" lift and go back to stockish level, so if anyone knows of stock parts in the Seattle or north of Seattle area of Washington, let me know. The 4x4 shops don't have any take off parts at the moment, so the search continues.

I'm located up in the PNW, north of Seattle. My first mod is going to be getting rid of the 6" lift currently installed and getting back close to stock. I've checked with local 4x4 shops for take off parts but they don't have any at the moment. If anyone knows of any in this area, I would be very interested. I'm on a bit of a budget at the moment so parts like Thuren control arms are not really an option.
Did you happen to buy your PW in Puyallup? There was a lifted silver 07 at the dealer where I bought mine.
