Parts are in. Dropping it off 12/16/15 to have work done. I hope they get it right. If not, i guess i am gonna get a new front & new rear axle on their dime !!! $$$$$
Re: Here we go again............
Update: they said the front pinion seal is done but need a "special tool" to finish the rear. They said it is on the lift & torn apart !!!
It's seems as if i was a service mgr, & had a unique vehicle that no one has worked on before, i would assign my best mechanic & tell him to research the job to see what it entails, so that there were no surprises or unnecessary waits for the customer.

They are replacing the Powertrain control module inside the rear axle. Front was done in less than an hour.
Re: Here we go again............
Is this the same thing as the "locker actuator?" I have a blinking diff lock light that I need to figure out.TwinStick wrote:They are replacing the Powertrain control module inside the rear axle. Front was done in less than an hour.
If I start listing Mods I would have to change the list daily

There is no module inside the either axle. There is a solenoid for the locker but that is it.TwinStick wrote:They are replacing the Powertrain control module inside the rear axle. Front was done in less than an hour.

Ya the rears pretty simple too but I know releasing the rear connector there's probably a special tool for and also a special tool for setting up the sensor id imagine (correct depth) so it doesn't think your locked or unlocked all the time when your the opposite

Haha... The bolt to release the connector is a t15 or t20 torx bolt. There is no setting up the depth, it is either on or off contact all through the connector. The hardest part is just making sure you don't pinch any wires.2wagons1driveway wrote:Ya the rears pretty simple too but I know releasing the rear connector there's probably a special tool for and also a special tool for setting up the sensor id imagine (correct depth) so it doesn't think your locked or unlocked all the time when your the opposite

Re: Here we go again............
Having worked at a dealership for many years I've learned one very valuable lesson, never believe the bullshit excuse they give for anything lol. He might have just as well said "your bumper fluid reservoir is defective and we had to order a new one". One time another tech tried to drift a new 370z on a test drive and broadsided the curb. Cracked the wheel and bent control arms, service writer gave some bs excuse and they fixed it up and sent it out the door a few days later with the customer none the wiser. Not all dealerships are that crooked but they're all playing CYA

I believe there is a special tool for the removal of the locker actuator. Someone else had problems and the dealership had to wait for the tool to show up.

It comes out like any other diff case. There are two extra bolts, one holding the connector outside the axle, and one holding the wiring to the driver side bearing cap.RustyPW wrote:I believe there is a special tool for the removal of the locker actuator. Re: Here we go again............
I had mine done almost 3 years ago.. (rear)..first dealership had it for 5 weeks and yes they didn't have that special tool..took it to another dealer with no issues

Thought the tool is for removing the actuator from the carrier, not for removing carrier from the housing.loveracing1988 wrote:It comes out like any other diff case. Re: Here we go again............
Ok, I cannot comment on the 10.5 locker because it was never tested after I started at aam. The 9.25 and 11.5 function the same way, the diff case is in 2 pieces, the actuator/magnet is on the small piece with the locker components being in the big piece. The special tool required is a 22 or so mm socket and the diff case can be separated to replace whatever locker components that need to be replaced. Maybe the 10.5 locker was a different design that needed so sort of special tool but the 11.5 does not.RustyPW wrote:Thought the tool is for removing the actuator from the carrier, not for removing carrier from the housing.loveracing1988 wrote:It comes out like any other diff case. Re: Here we go again............
So, if you go to this link http://cumminsownerz.com/PDF/AAM-Breakdown.pdf , then go to page #32, then look at part # 5, this is what they are replacing.
Yes, i stopped by dealer today & the entire rear axle is disassembled. Axle shafts are pulled out just enough to remove from the pumpkin, yet are still in axle tubes, ring gear & entire internals are removed, except for pinion gear. They got the tool they needed (borrowed it from another shop, but the bolts on it were stripped, so the tool was no good. They are finding another tool & said they expect to have it done today or tomorrow. If not, they are gonna give me a loaner. So, that is the latest update.
Oh yeah, they also got my Transfer Case Position Sensor in as well (part # 0508 3138 AA-001). $86.32. So, now i have a spare.

Re: Here we go again............
Really, IHNFIdea. All i know is i want my truck back & pray they do it/did it right. Otherwise, i will have legal battles in the future &/or, they are gonna put 2 new axles under it. I really don't want them to do that though. Major down time & no guarantee that the new one was put together right either. ALL Bullshit i don't need or want to deal with right now.
They said the tool did not come in today & they are hoping for tomorrow.

Re: Here we go again............
Thanks for those links coder.
Message on machine when i got home tonight: We have the part in & after doing the tests the repair manual says to do, the "final drive control module" is reading defective & we are trying to source one.
I thought they were replacing the "power train control module". How the fuck many control modules are there in these things. The way i see it, ANYTHING that has Power train or final drive in it should be covered under my "Lifetime Powertrain warranty.
NIGHTMARE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does NOT APPROVE of this level of incompetence. It has been a week now.
