I finally found a Marlin 1895 SBL at a local gunshop, I've wanted one of these forever( since before Remington bought Marlin).
I've heard all the stories about the new Marlins, this one seems ok but it does seem rough when the action is cycled , could be because it's new.
Anyway does anyone own a newer Marlin and has it been ok to you?

Re: Anybody own A Marlin rifle?
I've bought one of their lever guns chambered in .45-70 about a year ago and aside from the recoil it's been an absolute pleasure, not one hiccup yet.

I own a Marlin 450 guide gun, I've never had any issues with it but like you said the action does tend to be a little clunky

Just about all levers are rough, especially new. Strip it and polishing works wonders. I got a new Winchester 94 not long ago, about 3 hours, a dremel and a couple beers and its smooth as silk.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

Re: Anybody own A Marlin rifle?
Before i bought my Marlin 336c, i had my heart set on a Winchester. My friend, who was a gunsmith, asked me why. I said IDK, it's the gun that "won-the-west" i guess. He asked me to go & look at both thoroughly & work the action of both before i bought one. I did, & i bought the Marlin. When he asked why, i replied "the action on the Winchester felt almost loose compared to the Marlin." I said that "it felt like i could shoot 10,000 rounds through the Marlin before it would even come close to the Winchester." He laughed & said he thought the exact same thing. He also bought a Marlin 336c.
I have only shot mine to sight in the scope. Yes, it is tight. No issues at all. I wear a thin leather glove, problem solved. Or, you could get the bigger loop.

Re: Anybody own A Marlin rifle?
I have 3: a 60's era, no safety, 336 in 30-30 with an old Redfield 4x scope & Redfield see through rings, a XLR in .450 Marlin with the Wild West Guns SS peep sight, slotted SS front sight hood, fiber optic front sight, bear proof ejector, and large lever loop, and a 336c SS in 30-30 also with a new Redfield 2-7x scope, and the Wild West Gun large lever loop. I installed all parts myself, not terrible at all. Shot deer with both 30-30's & bear with the .450Marlin, all quick kills, all with Hornady FTX LeverRevolution ammunition. Deadly.
