Carli Control Arm Rubbing

Post by PWRWGN4U » Thu Jan 29, 2015 11:56 am

Looking for some help from the collective group. Just had Carli ball joints, control arms and track bar installed along with 35x12.50x17 Toyo MTs. I am rubbing on the passenger side control arms, with the most significant rubbing being on the upper control arm, to the point it has rubbed the paint off.

Anyone else with the Carli arms and Toyo's experience this? Any possible causes and/or solutions other than the Toyo's are a wide tire?

thanks

I'm not a Carli expert, but honestly the Toyo M/T's are pretty wide. Somebody with more knowledge should chime in shortly to give you a better answer.

Mine do as well, probably due to our track bar lengths being a bit off...wheel back spacing as well.

Assuming you have the regular Carli arms (instead of the new high clearance version) here are a few comments/questions:

1) Did you lift the front end or is it stock height?
2) The track-bar measurement for stock height should be 39", with Carli 3" springs (adding 1" on a PW) 39-1/8".
3) Did you get an alignment after you install the arms, they are 1/2" longer than stock and the caster will be off?

A very slight rub is normal on the top arm my Toyo ATII in the same size do that. Significant rubbing on the top and any rubbing on the bottom arms is a sign that something is not adjusted right.

Like others have said, check the length of your track bar. It should be 39-39 1/8th from center to center.

Assuming that you are running stock wheels it is the combination of the high backspace on the factory wheel combined with how tall and wide the 35" Toyo's are compared to all other 35's on the market.

Thanks for all the responses/comments.

Truck is stock height up front and did have an alignment after the install.

I haven't checked the track bar length yet, but will.

Snapped some photos(below). In the first pic you can see the rubbing on the UCA and slight rubbing on LCA. The second pic shows the UCA rubbing more closely.

Thanks again and I will check that track bar length.

If the letters "Carli" are showing they are installed correctly.

^^^YUP^^

If they were installed backwards the rubbing would be much more pronounced.
