questions

Post by trucker799 » Sat Aug 09, 2014 9:12 am

I have a question about the rear differential on my 2006 power wagon. On the passenger side of carrier is there suppose to be holes machined into carrier? It looks like it's machined but also doesn't look right but the dealer says it's normal. 18000 miles on a supposedly new complete reared and the oil was really dark. The dealer says they are there to oil the bearings. I would post pictures but I'm stupid and can't figure out my smartphone to get to my gallery.

I change diff fluid every year. It seems to keep the lockers working.

Yes. The machined holes are normal. Several people have questioned them because they don't seem to deburr them.

Remember looking at the edges and thinking they shouldn't be left like that. Just closed it back up and pretended not think about what I saw.

I think I read that the holes are a result of the differential balancing they do during manufacturing. Thats why the holes look different from one differential to another and are so rough.
