Tripped 30K, started ordering Maintenance supplys
Ordered some NGK G series which are partial platnium, fine tip, $2.99ea vs. $2.50 for normal V-power copper core. I know copper core is best however I wanted to try something else and for $.50 more I figure it can't hurt.
Gonna pick up some Amsoil for the Diff's shortly and order some filter mags to put in the diff's as well (also will clean the magnets).
Needs an oil change too and gonna go back to running conventional, for some reason my truck does not like Full or Blended synthetic oil...tends to burn it (I assume as it does not leak out).
The Transfer case needs a new output shaft/drive shaft boot (should have been done while the tranny was out !) so I am gonna ask the dealer to just change the fluid if they don't do it automatically.
Anything else I should look into doing maintenance wise at 30K?

Re: Tripped 30K, started ordering Maintenance supplys
Only other thing I can think of is greasing up that front driveshaft. Hell I still have to do mine on my 2005 Power Wagon haaha. Funny you mention the oil burning with Synthetic I have 165,000 miles on mine and it does that to. I want to say a quart every 4,000 miles I spoke with a Dodge mechanic and he said it's within spec for the hemi's lol. Oh I would also check out your pcv valve make sure that's still good. I just replaced mine the other day original lasted 165,000 miles lol.08TwinStickPW wrote:Ordered some NGK G series which are partial platnium, fine tip, $2.99ea vs. $2.50 for normal V-power copper core. In the past 5K it got a new clutch, flywheel, etc.. and a re-built tranny under warranty (bad day at the factory I guess).

Re: Tripped 30K, started ordering Maintenance supplys
At 30k you don't need to flush the transmission or transfer-case just check the fluid level, new fluid is at 60k.08TwinStickPW wrote:Anything else I should look into doing maintenance wise at 30K?
At 30k replace:
- Air Filter
- Engine oil w/filter
- Front/rear axle gear oil
- PCV valve
- Spark plugs
Synthetic motor oil will burn a little more because doesn't thicken up as much as regular oil over time and gets past the rings easier. I've used synthetic oil since I got my 07 new and change it every 3k miles. I burn about 1 quart between oil changes and have since I had about 45k miles, I'm at 110k right now so I wouldn't worry about it.
By the way the factory spec for oil consumption is 1 quart every 1500 miles under 75k miles, and 1 quart every 750 miles after that is acceptable, so you are well within specs. Keep in mind not all engines will do this and "acceptable" only means that it is not a sign of abnormal engine wear or damage that requires you to fix something.

After reading countless threads on spark plugs, the general consensus seems to be, stick to stock Champions.

Great to know on the oil consumption, its been something I've been wondering about for a while. I'm pretty sure. The locker bypass is mentioned as a part of the first service - I'm kind of surprised that the OP missed that. Re: Tripped 30K, started ordering Maintenance supplys
Me also, lol. Are E3s frowned upon on here for plugs? Everything I see and read says they are better than any other plug. I've put them in my other vehicles and seen noticeable gains in fuel economy and power (use that loosely, probably the placebo effect but hey..) I may do them on my plug service if anyone wants to see if they help any.Bill2014 wrote:That made me smilefyrfytr704 wrote:I'm almost certain that 30k miles is when you're supposed to add the lift and tires...

I'd be interested to see what the E3's do for you. I considered them but ended up sticking with stock.

I think there are writeups on DodgeTalk about E3s. IIRC, mostly unsatisfactory results.

Got almost 120k on my 05. Been running AMSOIL on the 1year 25,000 mile cycle for the past few years. I thought it was better on oil. Only add a quart or so over a year.

Seafoamed the truck (Intake, in the fuel, little in oil) and drove the piss out it, only got a little smoke.
Changed the oil and went with Nappa brand gold filter and Nappa regular 5w-20.
Changed the plugs (forgot how much a pain in the ass the rear ones are), took 2 hours or so with a few breaks.
Cleaned the PCV and the TB.
Overall she idle's a little smoother and seems to have more throttle response, now on to the diff's.

I think that you're on the same path I am - it's almost scary. I've still got a tiny bit of roughness at idle. I guess I will need to work on figuring that out. Although, at 101k I don't think that I can expect it to run like my old lady's 2013 Charger. Oh well..08TwinStickPW wrote:Seafoamed the truck (Intake, in the fuel, little in oil) and drove the piss out it, only got a little smoke.
