Yearly PW changes
So - I know this is subjective ( ) but just wondering what we all thought the best year was of the PW? (Besides our own!) Still contemplating updating mine as I have been for a while (or pulling a Morgan and getting a 'wimpy' 1/2 ton - I admit the gas kills me! ) but was just wondering if I had this right in my mind as I have a used '12 locally that's looking pretty sharp as well as the new '14's are hitting lots... Thoughts?
2005: First year, 'Bubble headlights', 'old' interior w/ Panty hook, cheap sway bar to replace
2006: New headlights/fenders, CAN bus, same mechanicals with 5.7l engine/trans/axles, last year for manual trans
2007: Same as '06 but minor trim differences
2008: Same as '06 but minor trim differences
2009: Same 3G body but new Engine (5.7l) version with more HP, better MPG's?
2010: 4G - first year, same drivetrain as 2009, more cab room, less visibility
2011: anything different?
2012: New 6 speed auto?
2013: Same as 12 but TC nannies
2014: New engine (6.4l), new common axles, new suspension with less articulation
Did I get most of it right? Please feel free to update/correct me...
So basically if i buy another newer than mine I'm not gaining too much other than it's newer or less miles on it? Maybe a few MPG's more? Maybe warranty again? Maybe a bigger payment? Honestly having trouble justifying it in my mind...
Or keep the gas hog and don't worry about a 8 yr old truck with 58k miles..

I know you could get the g56 in 07 trucks. Not 100% sure for 08

08' 6-speed here.
08' was the last year with stick/leather combo avail. (dealer told mine might be the last), I have read there are a couple 09's running around with 6speeds.

Traction/Suspension:305-70-17 Toyo AT2's, DT Profab Steering Brace, Carli front diff guard.
See: Silver stars headlights, 9012 fogs, reprogrammed for fogs with high beams, (2)6" KC LED gravity in driving/spread behind the grill
Tunesioneer AVH-X5800BHS w/stock infinity amp, Infinity ref. dash/reardoor speakers, kappa component front door, JL rear stealth box and JX500.1d.
Other: Dually marker light under the tailgate, 2013+ Red hemi badges, Bedtred bedliner and mopar rubber mat, Wheel well liners, rubber flaps, Bakflip MX4, W2W Mopar steps (bedlined black), weathertech front mats and rain deflectors.

2005 all the way but interior and lights are no where near as good as the new ones plus wish it had more power! But older, cheaper, smaller,so not worried about modifying it or cutting it up for better wheeling. Plus not worried about body damage on older truck lol. Too new too careful and not as much fun with truck unless your BAANG!!!!! Lol

Yes, 2012 was the new 6-speed transmission.
I can attest that the TC nannies are (unfortunately) present in 2012 trucks.
Also, mid (or maybe late?)-2012 was the switch from the New Venture Transfercase to the current Borg Warner transfercase.

I'm partial of course, but I like my '13 because it's the newest PW before they switched to the revamped suspension. I'd love to have the 6.4L engine, but there are too many other changes that I'd rather skip. There's something to be said for an older truck. You're certainly less cautious when wheeling, but then again I crunched my front bumper with less than a thousand miles on it going up the back way to Crown King.

I like my 05, but I would consider the 15. I going to keep mine now, almost have it where I want it.

14 to ? = 5th Gen

Also the Goodyear Duratracs on the new '14s, and the rims were no longer sourced form Alcoa in late '12 I think? (Can anyone confirm that?)

It's an all new model. The entire frame and drive train are 100℅ incompatible with the previous year truck.

I guess that makes sense. For our purposes calling '14+ a 5th Gen works for me. Typically, in the auto industry, significant body style change constitutes a next generation vehicle. I agree with your assessment though. If you only have 58k on your truck you should definitely keep it for at least another 100 thou!

2014 also has new rims--the plastic cover from previous yrs has been removed and replaced with a one-pc wheel, that although not a beadlock, according to the HQ Chrysler/MOPAR press release, they are "extremely resistant" to being pulled off the bead at low tire pressures.
2014 also has the atriculink (part of suspension I guess) that enables the coils to be both stiff on the road, but also enables reccovery of most of the lost articulation from previous yr basic suspension set-up.
2014 also has a 6.4L specific low range engine mapping (think built in tuner) that changes the electronic throttle positions and idle pts to enable running at higher RPM under control when going low and slow.
Not sure about all the interior gizmos of the 2014 compared to the 2013.

With a spacer, the front 9.25 can be regeared to 5.13. Also, I could be mistaken but, I think you can go down to 5.38 with AAM 9.25 and AAM 11.5. It would seem that 5.38s for the AAM 9.25 are not hard to get but, 5.38s for the AAM 11.5 are difficult to get but do exist. Really, IDK why anyone would want to go lower than the easily available 5.13 gears though.
