Cold Air Intake/Headlights?
What's up guys? Just a quick question. I recently added a Diablo Intune I-1000 and am also looking to install a Cold Air Intake. I know alot of you have them so I'm curious as to what's being used and what recommendations you all have for me and others looking to do the same.
Also, one of my headlight bulbs just went out so I mine as well upgrade those as well. Anyone replaced strictly the bulb aspect of the headlight? Suggestions? Want something brighter/better than the stock lights. Did anyone replace the fog lights as well...if so...with what?
Any and all information/guidance is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a K&N CAI and the same programmer, and also a custom exhaust. I like my set up. I was getting 9.5 mpg without the programmer, went up to 13.5 mpg:) in the city. I am running the 87 or 89 octane tune. I haven't tried the performance tune muck, but my PW seems to wake up with it. I'm trying to save alittle $ right now. Having a hard time keeping my foot off the skinny peddle:)

I've been looking at those and the AirRaids but there are alot of options. Which K&N did you go with?

I have K&N on the GMC and it's very loud when the throttle is opened. Have Injen on the PW and it's much nicer to drive. Look at the Volant, too.
Headlight bulb recommendations depend on the year of your truck. I don't know of any bulbs that make the PW stock headlights perform well and I tried a bunch in my '05. Finally switched to HID projectors. Fog lights seem to like Philips 9011 HIR1.

PIAA headlights and fog lights here. The difference is remarkable. I also had my dealer use his Starscan to enable the fog lights to remain on with the high beams----this makes a remarkable difference as well.

I got an Airaid cai with a snorkel. For headlight bulbs. I got PIAA stuffed in them.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I have a 2010 PW. I looked at the PIAAs as well. Will probably go with those. Fogs w/ the high beams sounds awesome. Thanks.

ai'm not sure but it seems like it would be to me plus its less likely to catch water or mud. PIAA capsules are overrated, but some guys love 'em. There are better choices out there (Hella, Osram, Philips, etc.). If your dealer won't do the StarScan routine on your fog lights, just wire them onto a separate switch and completely bypass the truck's computer.

Can't really tell from their website. 4G may require a new hood to avoid drawing from the bumper. See pics on their site.That's the 3rd gen design. I think the 4th draws from under the hood.

The one you posted is their "Hemi under glass" intake with the flex going down. After 2009, it changed designs.

This is what VaraRam says about their 4G system:
The system uses the OEM hood, R/T and or aftermarket hoods are not required. The system draws air from the high pressure zone between the upper core support and the underside of the hood.
• No falling rain water issues like the other low inlet systems. The 4G features a high mount location and water drains to ensure that water, even water over 2 feet deep and mud will not be a problem

I have a few friends with 4th gen 1500's and the research they did points to the Vararam having some water issues in the rain.
I would recommend the Volant or S&B for the 4th gen trucks (Sealed box's with good filters) if you really have have $$$ burning a hole in your pocket.
Your best bet would be a AEM drop in and keep all the factory intake stuff, all your going to get with other intakes is more noise and not enough gain to warrant the cost.
As far as new headlight bulbs, check this out:

Cold Air Intake/Headlights?
I had great luck with an S&B (dry filter) on my diesel, so I went with an S&B (dry filter) on the PW. No issues, as expected. Looks great and functions well with the dust I encounter on a daily basis. The price is hard to beat too.

2011PW _ How confident are you on that S&B being "dry" if you dip in a deep hole? I can see water being able to get into the housing but since the filter is not sealing the top from the bottom like the OEM, I dont think it would suck it in. I did not like the way the Vararam fitted the 2500 for the money. I've thought about piecing together my own kit to mimic the Vararam's idea of a tall, centered filter with a heat shield under it.

I believe the water would have to be fairly deep. Deep enough, that I wouldn't attempt it. There's 2 openings in the housing, plus the top plexi. The setup comes with a plug for the bottom opening, if needed.
