Power Wagon Towing Thread

Post by 04Ram2500Hemi » Sat Jun 07, 2014 1:41 pm

I don't think we have a Power Wagon Towing Thread so I thought I'd start one. This would be a good place for guys to post pictures of their Power Wagon's towing campers, boats, and other stuff. Maybe a Moderator can even make this a sticky.

I'll start with the family 19 Foot Larson that my dad bought 24 years ago. We had it in town last week doing routine maintenance and giving the hull a good cleaning. I'll even throw in a picture of the fuel economy I got while towing it back to the lake (two decent hill climbs, both at 65mph).

NOTE: Pictures fixed. Apparently when you post from your iPhone they make them upside down on the web (they appeared normal on my iPhone).

65-70 MPH back = 10 MPG

Literally burned an entire tank there and back

Ugh I need to get a tuner

Idk what the trailer I pulled down to Oklahoma weighed with all our shit in it but I was doing 75 on the way down and got around 6.5 average with my tuner on the 87 performance tune, changed it to the 91 tune and ran 91 and it didn't do much, maybe went up to 7. I was thinking of putting it on the MPG tune but I don't think that would have done anything but hurt it when pulling a trailer. When I dropped it down to 60-65 I jumped all the way up to an average of 12. needless to say we took it slow and easy on the way back

Anyway here's mine taking my buddies bagged S-10 up to the local Line X to have the bed done.
Image

And here's one of our old car trailer when I went down to St. Joe riding park in Park Hills, MO. It didn't even get pulled though, this was about 10 minutes before we blew one of the tires out that had a slipped belt. Ended up dropping it and just taking the 450 in the bed.
Image

And I posted this awhile back on here but I throw it in here again. Same car trailer from above after I got rear ended down in Kentucky coming home at night after a 2 day riding trip with 5 buddies. Totaled it out and messed my truck up big time. But now the entire back of my truck is brand new and we have a new, much nicer, much better trailer to use! I never did take an overall pic of it with the truck before that happened, and never got one of the trailer afterwards in the day time.

Very Ironic of this thread, We went to look at an RV Sunday and I was curious about the hitch set up and whether I needed a weight distributing one. I've hauled all kinds of trailers with tractors and such but you can "distribute the weight" with the machine on the trailer. The RV Travel Trailer I'm looking at is 34' 9" weighing in a 7,007lbs dry with a tongue weight of 780lbs. I don't plan to haul it far, we're going to camp in it while we build a new house. I figured I'd hook up to it and then decided unless one of you guys have already done something very similar and could share a pointer or two... :)

I'd say to use a weight distribution hitch and go for it. ;)

Yep. You can do it, but use a weight distributing hitch. Your leaf springs will be better off. Most of us that tow more than occasionally use helpers of some kind.

10-4, the salesman said he could install the hitch and adjust the trailer to my truck to make sure everything is alright for $445? I know half of that is the hitch itself but that's a bit of labor in my mind, can't be that hard?

I don't tow anything nearly as exciting. First pic is my mower I pull weekly to make some extra $$. Second is a tractor a buddy abd I used for some work. The third with the John Deere is probably the heaviest I've towed.
