Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
I've already ordered the 2" Mopar leveling kit but I just posted another thread about selling the factory parts(springs, shocks, arms, etc...) including the new spacer since I'm thinking of adding a suspension lift. Thoughts?

LOOKS GOOD!
The Trail Grapplers were the second best traction tire I've had on the truck. I did see a 1.5 to 2 drop in MPG with them - they are heavy suckers!

Yeah..I've seen the same drop in mpg. Would a tuner improve this?

Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
It's all the added mass. They weigh 88 lbs apiece! I had just installed an Airaid intake and lost all the gains it made, so yes, a tuner might get it back.

I have the Diablo Intune DCX and love it. I called Moe's Performance and that's what the guy recommended. I was averaging 10.9mpg with 35"s. I now have 37"s and averaging 14.3 mpg on the MPG Booster Tune on 87 octane. With the Hemitune on 93 octane and nothing in the bed of my truck, it will spin all the way through 1st and bark into second (with the 37" Yoko's). It really has come alive. With my topper on it and a few hundred pounds of tools, it won't spin but it's still faster than it ever was, has more torque and gets better gas mileage. On the 93 Hemitune I still gained about 2 mpg average. With the 87 MPG Booster tune, I've seen 18mpg with the cruise set on 60 on the highway. Well worth the money.slimstick wrote:Yeah..I've seen the same drop in mpg. Would a tuner improve this?

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

Definitely ... If you can afford a proper lift over a puck I'd do it. I only did the 2" spacer because I can't afford proper suspension yet. A lift kit is a much better option ... Just costs more!slimstick wrote:I've already ordered the 2" Mopar leveling kit but I just posted another thread about selling the factory parts(springs, shocks, arms, etc...) including the new spacer since I'm thinking of adding a suspension lift. Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
Thanks for the feedback, I'll definitely be purchasing one in the near future. Since I've had the new wheels and tires installed I've noticed some lag/hesitation in the pedal on acceleration from a dead stop and also the same feel right before I come to a dead stop. Would that be the transmission trying to compensate on acceleration and stopping because of the added weight?

18 MPG with 37's? That seems a little high. Is that hand calculated? Will wrote:I have the Diablo Intune DCX and love it. I called Moe's Performance and that's what the guy recommended. Strictly highway. Cruise set and reset the dash, rode for over an hour.shaner82 wrote:18 MPG with 37's? That seems a little high. Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
18 is close to double what I'm getting now. I hardly drive highway so I don't expect that much of a gain. I only have a 2 mile commute to work and average 14-18 miles a day...weekends are when we venture out a little.
Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
I have a 23 mile one way. On the way home today I reset it and got 17.4. That's conservative though. On daily normal driving average I'm around 13.5 with the tuner. Was 10.9 with 35's and no tuner. Of course that drops considerably when playing.

Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
The diablo intune dcx is for 2011+ models...I have a 2010.
Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
Will was that 18 mpg gain just strictly the diablosport standard mpg booster tune or a modified hemifever booster tune?
Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
The MPG Booster tune but I got almost as much with the hemitune if you stay off the skinny pedal.

Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
Granted I could squeeze 16 on highway before but averaged 10.9 so I'd say I gained 2.5 average across the board and a LOT more power. Running 37's and don't remember it pulling like this with stock tires.

The website only shows the DCX for 2011+ models. The I-1000 is for 2010 and below...Will wrote:The MPG Booster tune but I got almost as much with the hemitune if you stay off the skinny pedal.
Mine is a 2010 slimstick...
Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
I called them and spoke to a fella asking the difference, he suggested this one and when it arrived it had DCX on the box. With the $50 add for the Hemitune, it was $403 shipping if I remember right. I didn't want the dash mounted one. This is the one that looks like a small Iphone.slimstick wrote:The website only shows the DCX for 2011+ models. Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
I just looked again on the website and the only difference between the I-1000 and the I-1000 DCX is that the DCX has been formulated to work with 2011+ Chrysler vehicles. $403 with the $50 hemitune and shipping? Do you have to call to get that price or did you have some kind of discount? The website shows the I-1000 DCX for $449 w/ Hemitune($40) for a total of $489(no tax and free shipping) and the regular I-1000 for $389 w/ Hemitune($50...weird $10 price jump) for a total of $439(no tax and free shipping). What exactly does the Hemitune offer over the standard octane(87, 91, 93) tunes?
Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
I'm sorry, I just checked the invoice, it was $439 total.
The Hemitune is really worth it. It comes with a couple of preloaded tunes. Once you place the order, Sean with Hemifever will send you an email asking a couple of questions. When you get the tuner installed, you'll log some time driving it and then email him the data, which is super easy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtE0ApDF ... e=youtu.be He makes some changes and sends it back, load that one inn and then do a full pull, send it to him and he'll fine tune it and send it back. All this was done on a Saturday in a matter of a couple of hours. He's a real great guy. Basically, he takes the Diablo tune and smooths out the power curve. Before this tuner, my truck would kind of lag until it go up in the rpm around 4000 then felt like it pulled stronger. All that is gone now and it pulls smooth from idle to redline.

Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
Oh, and he builds you a 87 tune and a 93 tune. The 93 tune is noticeably stronger than the Diablo preloaded tune after Sean gets done with it. I have stock intake and exhaust and the motor even sounds like it's smoother and stronger.

Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
Awesome...I'm convinced and will be placing my order today. Aside from all the performance gains, with a 2 mpg average gain, it will pay for itself in a year. Couple questions: What do you mean by "do a full pull?" Did you call to place the order or do it online and than contact Sean? Will wrote:I'm sorry, I just checked the invoice, it was $439 total.

Re: New wheels and tires for the Ol' Power Wagon
I called Moe's Performance and ordered over the phone, can't remember the guys name though. Sean is with Hemifever, he'll do the fine tuning.
The full pull was where Sean wanted a log from a 0-75mpg wide open throttle pull. At the time I didn't have anything in the bed of the truck and it would spin in first, I eventually had to roll the throttle through first until I could give it all without it spinning.
I drive mine everyday and the tuner will pay for itself in just under 3 months for me. Also, it's really strong on 87 as well. I never could run 87 in mine before, it would get terrible mileage and pinging. Now i use the 87 most of the time and then swap to the 93 if I go playing or something.
