Looking into 2010 Power Wagon
Looking into 2010 Power Wagon
Hello all. I've been a long time lurker on this forum looking for info on these awesome trucks. I currently own an 04 cummins and have been very happy with it and its KORE HP suspension. But now with diesel prices getting higher than 50-60 cents a gallon than gas, I'm thinking seriously of trading it for a 4th gen power wagon.
The truck I'm considering is a 2010, has 107k miles and looks in very good condition. The bads are someones stolen the winch and the previous owner has taken off the flares. They are asking $24k for it.
Now comes the fun stuff. I've been looking at the Carli equipped power wagon on their blog, and thats exactly how I would like it to be set up. I've already been talking to Don Thuren about a suspension and have a tire question. Does that truck have 12.50 or 13.50 tires? I know its on 37" toyos but think I read somewhere it has 13.50s on it.
Thanks guys in advance.
My pocketbook is already quivering.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

Don't walk, run from that truck. It sounds like it's had hard life since it was bought. You can find much better deals out there.

Re: Looking into 2010 Power Wagon
Yea the miles and stuff that the dealer said was missing was a red flag. And when I called they were way too eager to get rid of it. Carfax even says that it hasnt been driven but 5 miles since last october. Weird. Guess I will keep looking.
Thanks everyone.
Saw another in STL with 61k that the owner wants $29k. Seems like they are all high around here.

Re: Looking into 2010 Power Wagon
How do you figure it's had a hard life just by someone stealing the winch and the owner removing the flares? Maybe he didn't like the flares because they fade so bad. I've thought about taking mine off and my truck is well taken care of... Almost 100K miles but mostly highway and has the oil changed religiously. I'm meticulous at everything on mine so much as to applying oil occasionally on the door hinges.
This truck could be in excellent shape, now do I think it's priced high, yes. I think a fair price if it's in really good shape would be more like $19k missing the winch and everything else stock.

Re: Looking into 2010 Power Wagon
I'm just going off your description. Over 26,000 miles a year, missing winch, and missing flares doesn't sound like a truck I'd buy. You wanted an opinion, you got it. But hey, it's your nickel. If you want to take a chance on that truck fill your boots. If it was me, I'd move onto a different truck. Will wrote:How do you figure it's had a hard life just by someone stealing the winch and the owner removing the flares? Easy... I'm not the one looking, just stating my opinion on the condition of my 2010 truck that has almost as many miles.04Ram2500Hemi wrote:I'm just going off your description. Re: Looking into 2010 Power Wagon
My tone came out a little on the D-Bag side, sorry about that. However, I still would never buy a vehicle that has over 26,000 miles each year on it, regardless of maintenance records. The truck in the original description would scare me off. I also have a firm rule of no daily driver for me or my wife will have over 100,000 miles on it. I know I'm different than others, but that's just my way of thinking. I've watched my brother get nickeled and dimed on vehicles that have over 100,000 miles on them. I just won't put myself in that position. I also average around 9,000 miles a year on my vehicles, so it takes a long time to get to 100,000 miles. Again, my way of thinking may be different, but that's just how I role. Will wrote:Easy... Re: Looking into 2010 Power Wagon
10-4, I used to put 35K on mine a year until recently. My truck is like a second home so I gotta take good care of it. Hope to see 300K miles out of it.

Re: Looking into 2010 Power Wagon
If it got 26M per year, those were probably mostly highway miles. Highway miles are easy miles. Need to look at the truck in person to know the condition, but the asking price does seem pretty high.I still would never buy a vehicle that has over 26,000 miles each year on it,
Re: Looking into 2010 Power Wagon
Sorry guys didn't want to start an arguement. But I'm in the beginning process of looking. The 4th gen trucks seem to be really hard to find. Just asking opinions. I myself have bought trucks with around 100k and had good luck. But I'm new to the power wagons and want a truck that will last me several years. First it will start as a daily driver as I rarely drive over 10k a year, then it would become my hunting and expedition rig similar to the Carli equipped power wagon. Just love that truck.

Re: Looking into 2010 Power Wagon
That is a lot of miles for a 2010. Hell I only have 36 k on my 2010, but it sits a lot. I use my old Ramcharger for my daily driver.

Re: Looking into 2010 Power Wagon
I have almost 100,000km on my 2011. But I use this truck for everything including lots of hwy miles for work. When I do a search around here I see trucks like mine going for $33,000 to $39,000 Canadian.
Loving my 3/4 ton version of my old Jeep TJ!!!!!

Re: Looking into 2010 Power Wagon
The first thing you want to do is make sure the PW stuff all works, front/rear lockers, sway-bar disconnect. The main problem is water gets in the connectors and fries them. (these are expensive to replace)
Make sure it has the real PW wheels which are forged aluminum, will internal bead retention lip for running at low pressures, no other ram wheels have this. ($600 each to replace)
Then make sure all the dodge front-end parts are in good shape primarily (front axle u-joints, tie-rod ends, ball-joints, unit bearings, steering gear box) engine, and tranny should be fine if maintained. (these are common wear items on these truck with that many miles)
To replace the winch is around ($3000 parts only)
Carli Dominator 3.0 kit on the blog installed about ($8000 installed)
37" toyos are 37x13.5x17 and usually require a 6" (4" over PW) lift to run on a PW
This PW could run into to a lot of money if the truck has issues so be cautious...
