Holy hail! Poor wagon took a beating

Post by nrooney21 » Tue Sep 17, 2013 11:01 pm

What crazy weather the west has had lately. Major hail storm came through north eastern Utah this evening. Golf ball size and bigger. Beat holes in the siding on the house, and beat my poor wagon. It got dark before I could get pics of the truck, but here are some of the damage. Even broke the windshield on my work truck!

Thanks guys. The dents don't show up well in the pics, so I won't post them. But the estimate I got from the body shop was 2,285.30. My work truck faired far worse as the estimate on it is closer to 10k. Still waiting on the adjuster for the house

So, I went through this too.... Take the insurance money but DO NOT go where the insurance tells you too. Also, do NOT tell the body shops one iota about an insurance check, or how much the check is for, just get a couple of estimates, and say you want to pay cash. If you tell the body shop the insurance cut a 2200 dollar check,, guess what, the estimate will be for ...2,200 bucks.. don't fall for it! You should be able to pocket at least 30-50% of these checks! Trust me.
Enjoy this life, cause it's all we're getting.

Thanks!

Fireman, thanks for the advice. I got the estimate from the body shop that has always painted my entire families hot rods, so he will only charge what it actually cost. But now the insurance company is making everyone affected go to a mobile claims station they will have set up on Monday. Apparently there are a ton of beat up cars.

As for the house, the adjuster just left. Discovered far more damage than I thought. But only does the siding need replaced on two sides of the house, but the entire roof and all the gutters too. All of this while the house is on the market...looks like I'm postponing my move.

Oh well. I learned that Mother Nature is not one to be f$&*ed with. Haha. I'm just glad my house is livable unlike those poor people in Colorado.

Nuther thing on the insurance, you have a substantial claim for diminished value on the truck. Check on it, it may take a lot of work to get it, but as you know, if you decide to sell the truck, either to a private individual or dealership, the hail damage claim will come up on CarFax or the other services. That negatively affects the value, and you should be compensated for that loss.
I'm just along for the ride...

Well, I dropped the truck off at the body shop on Monday. I was just going to put the money towards a lift, but seeing the dents on the hood every morning kinda got to me. He is going to fix the biggest of the dents and I should still have some money left over for mods. Fingers crossed.

Ugh... got the truck back only to find that there was dirt all over in the clear coat and the powerwagon decals on the hood weren't there.. wtf!? The body shop I took it to is super reputable so I don't know what happened. I called the owner, who had been out of town, he apologized profusely and even came out to the house to look at it. It goes back in Tuesday.

Still trying to get contractors lined out to fix the roof and the siding. Finally got the insurance check for the house. 29,758.74! Who thought little balls of ice could cause so much damage?
