Exhaust Opinions

Post by mcdozendriver » Wed Sep 18, 2013 8:03 pm

Time for a new Exhaust for my '13. My wife complained the other day that the truck wasn't loud enough so i HAVE to appease her wishes.

So I have been looking on youtube for sounds clips and doing research but just wanted to see what y'all are running and your opinions.

My Old Chevy had a Corsa cat back system that I loved. A great deep growl at WOT and a perfect idle rumble with no drone. Corsa has a complete cat back and i have been leaning towards it.

But my options are:

Corsa- just the muffler or whole catback
Borla
MagnaFlow 14"
Flowmaster 44/40/50

If i just replace the stock muffler, i want to delete the resonators and dump the pipe over the axle, already drug the tip on rocks.

Any feedback from experience or personal preference or other brands that work well with our trucks?

thanks guys

Magnaflow 14" dumped after the axle without resonators gets my vote. Exactly what I have and I love it. Gives a deep growl at heavy throttle with no drone. Not annoying at all in the cab but sounds great outside.

Agree. I have done the same thing. I did the 14" and y-pipe and had a local shop do it.
I had a borla cat back on my 2010 1500. It sounded awesome but was a lot of $$$. My vote is the same. Magnaflow 14"

I currently have the hooker Aerochamber on mine. Next month I am installing the y-pipe that just came in as well as cutting the resonator off. Already dumped at the axle though. Sounds good so far!

Man I didnt even think about doing dual 12"stacks through the bed... thanks for the idea.

But back in the real world I do like the price of the magnaflows vs the $600+ for the corsa or $200 for the borla. I will see what the muffler shop in town can do for me. Did you go with offset or centered for the 14"?

What benefits are y'all seeing from the y-pipe?

I have a Flowmaster 50 duel in duel out cut behind the cats and 2 1/2" pipe and turn down just past the front of the bed. Sounds awsome, not much drone in the cab.

Once you see inside the stock Y pipe you'll see why it's a good idea to swap it out. It's very crimped and restricts a lot of flow.

I'll see if the shop will save me the stock y-pipe when I get it chopped and I'll get a picture and post it versus the magnaflow one

What is the PN for the Magnaflow Y pipe that fits our trucks? Any pictures of it mounted, here on this site yet?

Here is what I put on my 07 PW installed the muffler sideways to improve clearance and trimmed the tail pipe so it will not push up into the rocker panel.

What size is our exhaust piping at the muffler? 2.5", 3"? I'm looking to possibly do a muffler swap on mine. I had an 18" Magnaflow on my Titan and I loved the sound of that truck.

Muffler is 3" in and out.
Y pipe is 2.5" in and 3" out. Definitely worth the sound change to do muffler/resonator delete/y pipe

After looking around and doing a little shopping, I have decided on Borla for a muffler. So over all, I am thinking of the Magnaflow Y-pipe, the Borla XR-1 16" muffler and getting rid of the resonator, either dumping right after the muffler or carrying it over the axle. I will order the parts and call the muffler shop to see if I can get it all put in by next weekend.

I've been running an aero turbine for a few years and like it a lot although might be a little loud for most and drones pretty bad at highway speeds.

I have been debating which route to go on this also. Ended up ordering the corsa db catback. Got what I think was a good deal off autoanything. Under $500 including shipping. Not sure if anyone else is running this set up, but will share details/pics/audio once arrives and on the truck.

How did you get the deal for under $500? I went on the website and can't get it for that cheap.

With autoanything. com... ALWAYS do the chat option... their representatives are authorized to give deeper discounts if you buy it right then. They will send you a link directly in to a shopping cart/checkout. Make sure though they get the right part # loaded. They started to sell me the dual exit exhaust v. the side exit.. I didnt notice until I had just finished checking out..I freaked out.. Luckily I was still on the chat session and he fixed it and is crediting my card the difference between the two(the single side exhaust is like $150 cheaper than the dual exit). I'm now looking at a volant CAI with the donaldson powercore filter for like $330 shipped..
