Knock/pop at full lock while articulated
Been a while since I have posted anything concerning truck issues or since I have heard the PW make any new noises so i am inquiring the great minds on here. Was backing up at the campsite this weekend and had the steering cranked to the left coming out of a small gulley and I hear this loud pop, chunk noise. like metal to metal would make. Looked underneath for anything obvious (loose parts, contact marks, etc.) and didn't see anything abnormal Can anyone relate to or explain this? Also just had the local wrench monkey do an alignment on it not to long ago. I had to have him straighten out the drivers side tie rod end that was all cockeyed after his "alignment" job before I paid them. Same one that was looked at and deemed ok for the L 16 tie rod end recall. Same place the noise sounded like it was coming from. Wondering if he screwed something up?

Re: Knock/pop at full lock while articulated
Can't really help on this, as my front end knocks and pops like an overgrown box of rice krispies sometimes (not a lot, but sometimes). My truck also takes quite the beating sometimes though and my control arm bushings are all shot and I'm running a spacer lift (for now). The thing is, that there are lots of forces and stresses occurring in the front ends of our trucks during articulation, turning, engaged locker, etc. I'm assuming the axle was articulated since you said you were coming out of a gulley. Were you locked up? I've heard loud knocks/pops when locked up, turning sharply in reverse, with no apparent damage anywhere. I know this isn't any help, but...

That actually does help a bit. Maybe i'm just a worry wart. I'm going to try an d re-enact it tomorrow and get under there and see whats going on. Thanks for the reply.
Edit: i am sure my factory CA bushings are shot as well.

Mine makes all sorts of popping noises and banging while locked or turning. Sounds like a drunken rhino with a sledgehammer sometimes. I just turn the stereo up.
Enjoy this life, cause it's all we're getting.

Re: Knock/pop at full lock while articulated
My "could be" guess would be: Steering shaft, front axle u-joints, swaybar end links, tierod ends, ball joints, control arm bushings, track bar bushings, or even front d-shaft u-joints. This is in no particular order. In order i think it would be: f-driveshaft u-joints, track bar bushings/tightness, control arm bushings, f-axle u-joints, swaybar end links, ball joints, tierod ends, steering shaft.

Just had new track bar bushings installed. Wonder if the bolt has loosened/settled in. You wouldn't happen to know the torque spec for those track bar bolts? Thanks

This is something you need to take a minute & think about. Stock track bar means no lift. Carli adjustable is good for like 1-2" only i think. More than that & you might have to just get something different. SkydRam should chime in here, he would know for sure.

New raybestos oem track bar bushings are in. Word to the wise would be to stick with oem bushings if you are thinking about changing them out. Moog bushings failed miserably.

I got a Carli track bar. My frame bushing on it was the wrong one when I got it. Ace is having the same problem with his Carli track bar too. Seems like a few wrong size bushings got shipped with the track bar.I called Shuan at Carli. He shipped me a new bushing. I've had it in since last year with no problems. All is good. So this is just a heads up on it.

Not to get too off topic here from the OP, but one must be careful to use the right size bushing sleeve with the Carli track bar depending on year of your truck. They ship with two different sizes for that reason.
I'm having my own little, kind of unique problem with my new adj. Carli track bar at moment. Seems the late 2011/2012 4th Gen PWs have either a different track bar bracket dimension on drivers side or there's lots of manufacturing "variability" in them. My bushing/sleeve went immediately bad after less than 100 miles of gentle pavement driving. Should have new one tomorrow.
Anyway, just my $.02. Good luck with your new bushings.

Re: Knock/pop at full lock while articulated
The metal sleeve that came with my Carli was too long. It would not allow the bushing to crush between the bracket mounts. Shaun shipped me a shorter one with new bushings. It's been fine for a year now. Have Moab and Rausch Creek on it.2012 PW ST wrote:Not to get too off topic here from the OP, but one must be careful to use the right size bushing sleeve with the Carli track bar depending on year of your truck. Re: Knock/pop at full lock while articulated
I'm still dealing with trackbar issues with the frame side. It's slopping back and forth a half inch while quickly turning the wheel from 11am to 1pm. I'm not too happy about it. I was sent the wrong bushings with the kit. I had to pay $60 for the correct ones, but they were not right either. Been driving it like this since Sept. Finally got the correct ones on the way from Shaun at Carli. Thank you Shaun!RustyPW wrote:I got a Carli track bar. My frame bushing on it was the wrong one when I got it. Someone asked about the torque. Shaun told me Dodge upped the requirements to 209 ft lbs, but the bolt is a grade 10 something bolt and is safe to go to 225 to make sure that sleeve is crushed tight against the frame ears. Don't bother trying to do it with an impact. They don't go that high.

Re: Knock/pop at full lock while articulated
Get the Thuren track bar. I haven't had any issues accept it likes to be re-greased every 6-10K
It really likes grease.
Anyways the factory specs for the 2005 state 140 ft lbs. I wouldn't go any higher then that.
