Makes me wonder, would the 65RFE or even the 66RFE would work in the older PWFor the 2012 model year, the 545RFE was recalibrated and introduced as the 65RFE in 1500 Ram models. With the exception of an improved torque converter, it is physically the same as its predecessor. The key difference in the 65RFE is the ability to use all six forward gears in sequence when using Electronic Range Select mode. In normal drive mode, however, the 65RFE uses the shift pattern of the 545RFE; thus never using 2nd and 3rd gears in succession. 2500 and 3500 models with gas engines received the 66RFE, a hybrid of 68RFE internals (including the gearset) packaged in a 545RFE case.

The 545RFE and 65RFE are the same. Slap in a new torque converter and you'll be much better off. A 66RFE swap does sound interesting...

Re: 65RFE vs 545RFE
So with the 65RFE would I use the 65 TC? I have a local one here that is a new take out I can get for a few hundred bucks. My '06 has 140k on it... so to get a new 65... it may not be a bad idea for a few hundred bucks if its not going to be an issue.

Re: 65RFE vs 545RFE
I meant an aftermarket converter, sorry should have been more specific. An Edge 2800 stall would be pretty sweet. They say that the TC in the "new" transmission is improved, but it's still stock.
