Just decided to poke around the boards...I sold my 05 PW back in Nov 2012.
I got a new Job as a District Manager covering all of New England, so to get my reimbursement all DM's need a truck newer then 3 years old.
So...that being said, I had to sell my baby and buy a 2012 Ram 2500 Crew Cab Laramie. Great truck, loaded up nice, but its no PW.

The first time I drove down a dirt road this spring through the mud, and soft spots I thought for sure I was going to get stuck...I laughed thinking this is just a highway truck.

I did order this one with 3.73 gears to get the best mpg I could get, my avg. has been about 14.5, best has been 17 but that was rare, mostly its between 14 and 15.5, sometimes I will see 16 but again more on the rare side of things. Towing anything I get about 8-11 depending what it is.

Every 3 years I will need to upgrade trucks, and I think I will have to go back to a PW...providing they still make them in 2-1/2 years.

How have the 4th Gen PW's been for everyone? Any better mileage with the 6-speeds?

No better mpg's here ! HA, i wish. I still get 10 empty & 6-10 while towing at max load. But mine is an 08' 6-speed manual. Hope to see ya back here with a PW some day soon.

As a rule I'm real close to 12mpg in town. On the highway at 80mph I'm getting around 14mpg. If I keep it at 65mph I can get right at 16mpg. This truck isn't easy on gas, but it's no worse than my 2004 HD Hemi with 35" tires was.

16 mpg !!! That would be a 60% increase in mileage for me !!!

Do you have any performance upgrades to yours? CAI, exhaust, programmer?

That's pretty decent for a PW! I'm curious to see if they will get the 8-speed auto in the future.

i had an 05' pw and now a 12' pw. same crap fuel mileage.

I have a '12 and I get about 13 to 13.5mpg highway at 75-80mph which is about 1 mpg better than my '04 2500 Hemi.
I actually get about 14.5 going back and forth to work on back roads where the speed limit varies between 30-45mph.

That's pretty decent for a PW! I'm curious to see if they will get the 8-speed auto in the future.

My truck is stock with no performance mods. I'm also running stock 33" tires. I'm sure if I went bigger I'd see a drop in fuel economy. I don't really pay much attention to the fuel economy with this truck. It's pretty much on par with what my 04 2500 Hemi on 35" tires got, so I've just accepted the fact that the Hemi is thirsty.

That's why I got a CDT. Big truck gets the same fuel milage that my 1994 V6 4x4 Dakota got, about 18-19mpg on the highway----12-14mpg off road.

I worked with a guy that swears he got 24 all day long with his modified 5.9 Cummins in his 06' dually 4x4 quad cab & said he got 18-19 towing his 35' fifth wheel. Is that even possible ???

I don't know about an '06, but earlier CTDs could go into the 20+ mpg range. Emissions stuff killed the diesel like it killed the gas motor, as far as mpg is concerned. The first 6.7 CTDs did ok, but mpg went down over the years. I have a friend who had an '01 with 10" of lift on 38s that would run 22mpg or more on the highway.

I had a 02 diesel 2500 quad cab, loved it - but needed more room, sold it just as diesel prices started sky rocketing...That's when I got my 05 PW in 2007.

Even this Dec, I thought hard about a diesel, but I have not heard any good consistent MPG numbers, seems everyone with a new CTD has big differences in numbers. So the unknown of fuel mileage, I went with a 2012 5.7 with 3.73's...it works for me, and for what it is, I cannot complain about fuel mileage.

I have heard of modified diesels getting really decent fuel mileage numbers, even stock. Before 2007 (07 is when all the extra emissions went on the diesels) they got good fuel mileage...
However I would doubt he got that good of mileage towing a 35' 5th wheel.
