Tire questions
Tire questions
My factory duratracs are going to be up for replacement pretty soon and I’m looking into replacing them with either a load range E 35x12.5 duratrac or going to Toyo MT’s. I see a lot of people hate the factory tires but mine have 38k and I can probably get another 8 to 10k out of them, I also haven’t experienced any flats or serious vibrations. I don’t go off-road very often, truck spends more time on the highway and dirt roads.
What is the life expectancy of the Toyo MT’s?
Anybody have experience with duratracs in load range E size 35?
I’m also open to other suggestions for long lasting all terrain or mud terrains. Wear is mostly what I’m concerned about since most of my driving is highway.

Re: Tire questions
I'm on my 2nd set of 35"Toyo MT's. Looking to go to 37" next. I got around 37,000 miles on the 1st set of MT's. I'm at 35,000 on the 2nd set now. I'm down to 7/32' of thread left. A lot of guys on here hate the Durocraps with a passion.

Re: Tire questions
I love my Duratracs - still have my original tires on my 2014 truck. Lifetime truck average speed has been 19 mph - it’s not a pavement princess. Not a single flat in 6 years.
I will consider the load range E Duratracs when I do finally replace them.

Re: Tire questions
It seems like a hit or miss with the duratracs. I haven’t had issues with mine other than feeling a little soft on corners.
I’m looking at these as well:
falken atw3
Cooper stt pro
Cooper st/maxx

Re: Tire questions
Factory Duratracs are a very different tire from consumer Duratracs. If you buy a set of them, you are getting a better tire than what came on the truck, in almost every way. The factory ones are very weak, have poorer wet traction and don’t ride as well as the consumer Duratracs.
Re: Tire questions
Thanks for the input damage wagon, do you have any experience with cooper discover STT pro? I really like the look and reviews on the tire. But even my factory wranglers have been decent to me. Not sure which way I’m going to go yet.

Re: Tire questions
Not personally but I’ve heard good things about both the Pro and the MaxxMario75 wrote:Thanks for the input damage wagon, do you have any experience with cooper discover STT pro? That's good to know - can you share a few references? Particularly from manufacturers...DamageWagon wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2019 6:45 pmFactory Duratracs are a very different tire from consumer Duratracs. Re: Tire questions
I went with the 35 inch Duratracs at 40k miles (stock tires had at least another 10k miles left). I bought the 35s from Discount Tire because DT opened a bunch of stores in my area, and DT uses a road force balancer. I have a little over 10k miles on the 35s, and they are very difficult to balance, and they become unbalanced quickly (less ttan 1k miles). Very frustrating. While they are in balance, the truck drives better than a heavy duty truck should. But....the Duratracs don't stay balanced. So, I just go back to DT, and they re-balance the tires. I have been back four times with these 35s.
I decided to stick with the Duratracks when I got 35s because I was really happy with the stock 33s. Great grip off road for what I tend to do, no flats, no leaks, great wear, great grip in snow and rain, and no balancing issues.
Planning a big trip out to Utah for the late summer/early fall. If the Duratracs continue to be problematic, I will switch.

Re: Tire questions
Are they using the sticky weights on the inside of the rim or the clip on ones? Do you have any pictures of your rig with the 35’s? I’m planning on leaving mine stock height, I’m pretty sure from my research I should have no problem clearing a 35x12.5r17 tire.TheWorstKind wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 5:36 pmI went with the 35 inch Duratracs at 40k miles (stock tires had at least another 10k miles left). I’m really curious as to why the factory Goodyear’s did so well and now the 35” version is being problematic for you.
Re: Tire questions
if most of your driving is highway, your new MTs could potentially drive you nuts...
you may be ok for a few 1000 miles but if you dont maintain perfect wear and balance, they will wallow out your eardrums.
toyo RT have been great and the 35s went over 20k miles and had plenty of tread left...only issue was wet handling out the window and in south florida, that sucks for an aggressive driver.
the RT in a 37, is the tire that should come from the factory. Reliable, tough, quiet enough, traction. 35s at least FCA!!

Re: Tire questions
No, and you’ll never find any reference to who makes what from an OEM. Personal experience and feedback from dozens of owners and experience in Moab tells me the factory one is pathetic.Bill2014 wrote:That's good to know - can you share a few references? Re: Tire questions
I destroyed one duratrac and got a hole in the bed of another my first Moab trip. No damage to my MTs when I went back.Mario75 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2019 2:12 pmWhat is the life expectancy of the Toyo MT’s?

But if you are arould albuquerque I can make you a deal on a replacment set of 2y/o lightly used duratracs.
