Sliders
Re: Sliders
I think we all respect there are multiple solutions to every problem.
trust me, I felt sick to my stomach when I dropped the coin on WK, but I also bought the PW over an F250 because there was aftermarket for it. But I was super pleased with the quality and realized the time I would have spent to fab anything close would cost me way more.
Now some people are great fabricators and love doing it. And if it's your thing, why not. but if it's just money, seriously consider what's out there.
My brother, built his own sway bar for a GM 2500HD and I was like "doesn't helliwig have a kit?" and he said "mine is better," But he fabs stuff. Took his box off and did an over frame sway bar. Way higher end parts, but cost way more. I would buy the Helliwig, he builds his own.

Re: Sliders
If you take the diy approach, just be careful if you decide to weld the sliders to the frame. Apparently the hydroformed steel is sensitive to welding and requires a specific approach. I can’t think where I dug it up last exactly, but ram has released literature detailing their preferred methods to frame and body and upfitter shops and it can be found on the internet.
I have one of the first sets of wk sliders from way back on my third gen, and have been well pleased with them in every way, but custom and diy is always cooler than bought if you’ve got the know how and time

Re: Sliders
I built my own sliders, same style as WK for mounting. I would NEVER do it again. I had full access to every tool you’d need; cold saw, bender, laser, TIG. Frankly, fuck that. I think I spent $440 in materials, maybe t was more. Building ‘sliders’ is easy as pie and anybody can do it. It’s MOUNTING the damn things that is a total bitch on these trucks. Fuck that. Buy them.

Re: Sliders
It’s buried pretty deep. Basically they use thinner heat treated steel instead of thicker and heavier mild steel in a lot of places. So creating a heat affected zone is also creating either a more fracture prone or weaker spots on the frame.Colibri wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 1:29 amIf you take the diy approach, just be careful if you decide to weld the sliders to the frame. Here it is
http://www.moparrepairconnection.ca/ass ... resent.pdf
I think there is, somewhere in that, a drawing that shows where high strength steel is used.
In one of the manuals for after-market body builder they talk about where, how large and how many holes you can drill in the frame. Iirc, the WKs don’t require any.

Re: Sliders
It's been known for a while of not welding on the 3G frames. The frames are heat treated after the welding is done during manufacturing. People still weld on them tho.

Re: Sliders
I have WK sliders on my '05. I think I was one of the first 5 or so to buy them, before John realized how much it costs to ship to the East Coast. I didn't pay what they cost now, but I would again. They fit perfectly. They are absolutely SOLID. The fab work is top notch. All of the bends are symetrical, the welds are beautiful, and they are HEAVY DUTY!

Another thing worth bringing up about white knuckle is the customer service. It is top notch. Period. A lady will answer the phone and just blow your mind on how damn much she knows. And their delivery time was spot on, and they keep you in the loop with emails etc. I was super happy with the transaction.

Group order. All built at once. Bulk ship them to Moab. First day install party. Then everyone can be tired, bruised and have bleeding knuckles the whole week someone’s bringing jack stands right? Right?

Our PW Forum tried for a bulk buy with them in the second half of 2014 - we had like 10 people ready to order - they didn't bite... Maybe things are different now.

Re: Sliders
Im just guessing, but I would doubt it still.
I would think they are already charging about as little as possible to just make decent money on them. No matter if they build 2 or 20, its still pretty much the same amount of work for them.
I could see them just giving a set away at pwim to be part of it and have the publicity, but I would highly doubt there ever gonna have a 25+-% discount on them just because a bunch of guys want them.
If you want a set of wk sliders, you pretty much just need to man up and throw down the cash. That or find a rare set of used ones that might be 3/4’s to half the price of new.
Even though they are expensive, it is quite easy to justify the cost of them.

Re: Sliders
Yes, the Aluminess sliders are great for the money. Are they as good as a frame mounted set of WKs? Hell no! But, I'm not planning on going hard core 4x4ing in this truck. On a scale of 1-5, no more than 3.5... My wife will kill me if there is a Power Wagon #4 before 2025... The Hellcat Challenger completely eliminated the new Power Wagon every 3 or 4 years option....RamGentry wrote: ↑Fri Jan 25, 2019 10:09 amI bought the aluminess sliders from a member on this forum. They mount up to existing hole so I didnt have to drill into anything and have been solid for me. No complaints. My main motivation for these sliders was honestly money, I got a pretty good deal when compared to buying new. Now that being said, WK would still be my #1 choice. If your planning on needing to pivot on the sliders often I'd say go frame mounted and thicker tubing. For me they are a nice step and protection when I'm on the (~ 10 trips/year)
LOL!

I heard you can jack the truck up from the aluminess sliders if it is at the middle. Know if this is true or not?

I use jackstands at all points on my Wk sliders, they definitely work! (not counting pivoting off rocks and sliding on them)

Re: Sliders
I never tried it, but it seems likely to be ok. I did some serious off roading with my 2010 and 2013 with a few "slams" on the sliders. I did bend the sliders a bit actually, but no further damage to the truck it self.jlilnc14 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 08, 2019 11:08 pmHammerTime wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 11:46 pmYes, the Aluminess sliders are great for the money. Yeah thanks, me too. I had the powder coater out in Wasilla put a thick coat of the rough black on first, so it has the best chance possible!
Re: Sliders
Thinking about taking my wk sliders off and raptor lining them. Let a buddy do some crawling and I walked away with a flat tire, dinged up rims, some body scratches, and some missing powder coat on my sliders, figured I can at-least Fix the sliders up
