K&N CAI for Ram 2500 with 6.4L

Post by gone2 » Tue Apr 19, 2016 12:24 pm

I had it on for only a few hundred miles and the wife decided the intake noise was too loud. I affixed Dynamat on the inside of the box to try to quiet some but it wasn't enough so I returned the truck back to stock. The Dynamat can be peeled off if not wanted; paid $305.

$260 shipped ( I still have the box.)

any noticeable gains with the intake, or did it just make lots of cool noise?

I thought it fetl quicker when entering the interstate. I'm not a gas mileage watcher and it wasn't on for long, so not sure about any mpg increase.

I have the same intake. It is stupid loud. Don't understand that. My exhaust is louder now. Maybe that's what you need to make the wife happy? :)

I saw no real MPG improvement. Throttle response is better, especially when you romp on it.

I cut the corner out of my factory intake for the shock tower and it is loud now. A 2" x3" hole is all. It's amazing what a difference it made. I haven't given it much thought but must be a harmonics.

I should have specified gains... Ha... I'm running 37's so mpg's isn't a concern for me... Was more curious about throttle and power gains... I'll buy it from you... Sending you a PM...

After having an AEM Cold Air Intake in my 2004 I swore never again. All I noticed was noise. My wife HATED it. I understand her wanting you to take it off the truck.

The CAI on my Superbee sounded wonderful and almost like a proper 4bbl carb. when getting on it, with my wife agreeing. It was undetectable while just cruising around at highway speeds like my CAI on the Power Wagon. Our problem was we tow a 8000# travel trailer often and it puts it right at that RPM/load where it is loud and unrelenting. It wasn't that big of a deal unladen.

Yep, my factory one with the hole in it is barely noticeable until you have a load or get in it, then it roars. On normal days, I kind of like it but pulling the tractor, it gets old real quick. I have a piece of kydex and been meaning to mold it to fill the gap. However, I wonder if something as simple has a band across the top of that K&N from wall to wall to stiffen the walls would help or is it coming from the tube? Just curious, I would try it without the box just to see if it's the box making the noise or the main tube. Maybe 14PowerWaggy can try it for curiosity sake. Also, not sure about the 4.5 gen, but with a tuner and 37's, I get better mpg than I did bone stock. Our low 4:56 gears and a 37" tire makes for a good hwy gear. :D

It's worth it in my opinion... Throttle response is way better... It is quite loud though...
