Coolest Nerd Tools

Post by SimonandSimonBeast » Tue Apr 27, 2021 6:50 pm

So, after installing my Thuren bumper and fairlead I needed to spool in my winch. Connected my controller, flipped the switch and nothing. Long story short I determined one of the female pins on the connector was too corroded. I worked on it with WD-40 and a paperclip for a while to get connection. I felt there must be a better way. Conferred with Rusty who told me about small wire brushes. A search of the web and I found these purpose made pin file sets by IPA out of New York. They work perfect. These are round for female pins. They do make concave files for male pins. Comes with a nice case and various size files. Feel free to post any of YOUR favorite nerd tools.ImageImage

Nerd tool # 2, yes, it has something to do with electrical work. Picked up this one motion wire stripper. Been using the old type for so long twisting and hoping that the sheathing pulls off. No more of that crap.Image

Nerd tool #3. Weather Pack connector crimper. I used this to crimp connectors for the Baja Designs lights. They use Weather Pack connectors. The only thing that would have made this more nerdy is if I got the ratcheting crimper that crimps both crimps at the same time. This one is a 2 step process. Made by Tool Aid out of Newark, NJ.Image
