Looking to pick up a new fire extinguisher to mount in the cab or bed somewhere. What fire extinguisher are you guys using?

Anyone spending that tall cash on a Halon?

I have a 5 lb carbon dioxide extinguisher right at the tailgate of my truck but am considering one of these https://elementfire.com/products/element-e50 for my camping trailer.

This is an old dry chemical I had at one time, same location as the new co2 one now.

Having fought car fires with extinguishers, and done several huge writeups on extinguishers, and having a fire in my own truck from a cut electrical wire... I carry a 2.5lb dry chem extinguisher under the driver’s seat. If you have a fire in the truck it’s likely electrical and can probably be solve by yanking a battery terminal, or is from gas catching fire and an extinguisher isn’t going to do shit. A shovel for putting out camping fires will see far more use.

Halon/Halotron are expensive and very very limited in how little of a charge is in those extinguishers due to the size and lower pressure. If a dry chem extinguisher isn’t going to put your fire out, it isn’t going out. Halon exists for a dedicated purpose and is not the right pick for a vehicle fire, even though I see people blow money on them all the time without understanding why it exists.

I have a halotron 1 extinguisher in cab, but it’s only for my expensive shit in the cab ie lowrance gps ham radio laptop etc that would be damaged by a dry chemical extinguisher. I have a big dry chem in the bed and an onboard AFFF system for engine bay and gas tank. All I have to do is yank the safety pin flags and hit the release cables and the engine bay and fuel tank get foamed.

If you’re gonna do an AFFF system you need to be able to shut down your electrical system to be 100% safe.

That element extinguisher is something I’ve been eyeing for a while, I want to test it on a tire fire before I trust it in one of my vehicles though. It looks really promising to me

To be honest I'd probably let it burn too as long as I wasn't 50 miles from civilization!

I picked up a 2.5lb abc marine/auto and an Element e50. Best of both worlds.

The element extinguishers look pretty sweet and the price/size is hard to beat.

I like the concept of the Element, but after watching the videos, my only concern is how close you have to be to the fire for it to be effective (since there's no pressurized propellant). I guess as long as you catch it early and small, it wouldn't be too big of a deal. I'll probably pick one up to have as a first line of defense. I like that there's no residue to clean up after.

I've got a little RV extinguisher between door and drivers seat. Just enough room there, out of the way, and easy access if needed.

I wonder if it would be better with the handle and nozzle positioned toward the rear of the seat? That might reduce potential kicking the extinguisher head with a boot...

I'm not sure how you're getting in/out of the truck, but I have literally never had that issue.

Mule inspired me a few months ago to install one. This is a 2.5 lb halotron from H3R Performance. I was going to install a dry chemical on the passenger side but lost interest due to the PITA install.
