The Driver Selectable Fuse

I'm not sure how many might know about this little bit of trivia, so I thought I would post a thread about it here.

There is one fuse in most Dodge, Ram, Jeep, Chrysler, Plymouth fuse boxes that is driver selectable. Usually it's for one of the power outlets in the vehicle. My truck has two factory power outlets on the face of the dashboard, the one on the passenger side is selectable to either have power all the time, or just when the ignition is turned on. The way you change it is by moving that fuse in the fuse box.

Here's a picture of a 4th & 5th gen fuse box. It's fuse #F90/91.

In this position, one of your power outlets will only have power when the ignition key is turned on.

If you shift the fuse over to this position, the power outlet will have power all the time, even when the vehicle is parked.

Here's a screenshot of the owner's manual that explains it.

One way that I use this is for a solar panel that I lay on my dashboard to help keep my battery charged when my truck is parked for long periods of time. Or if your cell phone battery is dead and needs to be recharged, you can plug it in without having to start your truck.

Anyhow, I just thought this was a cool feature that the engineers incorporated into our trucks that maybe not everyone knows about.

Cool tip. That's good to know. I've actually left my truck idling to get a partial charge on my phone before. Won't have to do that anymore.

I switched mine to the IGN position to use a tap-a-fuse for my off-road light relay.
