One headlamp not working.

Post by Ak68w » Mon Jul 20, 2020 10:29 pm

2012 pw. My passenger side headlight is inop. Low Beam, high beam nothing. Running light works. I’ve changed bulbs, cleaned contacts, and after doing this twice, it worked intermittently a couple of times. I’m at a loss.

Running OE bulbs (halogen I assume)? Any hotter and wire harness may have melted somewhere and is shorting out. How is the socket assembly? Check the whole harness for short to ground, major PITA though. Checked fuse and relay?

Factory bulbs. Wiring harness looks good. I wasn’t aware there was a fuse or relay? I looked on the fuse box I. The engine compartment and couldn’t find one. Where is it located?

No fuse or relay, then could be the Total Integrated Power Module (TIPM). If it is, it is not not a cheap fix. You should be able to find the pin out on the Web and find the wire to the headlight and diagnose. The TIPM is not clear to me because under the PCM (or IPM) is where all the harnesses connect. I assume that is the TIPM.

If the dealer deals with it and it is the TIPM, you looking at least $1000.00 maybe more. Rebuilt TIPMS are abut 500 or so and can be replaced by you, but need to determine if the wiring is not the issue.

I had an issue with my 2011. Turned out to be the connector. Here is the link for the youtube I found that helped. Hopefully it helps.

If it's the TIPM, you can buy one on eBay for about $150. You can also send it in to a vendor on eBay to be refurbished for $150. Or if you have an LKQ local, it'll cost you $14.50. One from a 1500 5.7l gas will be exactly the same if you ensure that the model year is the same gen.

Two things I'd like to edit. 1) I'm looking at gen 3 TIPM's 2) the price at LKQ is $15.99 + $1.50 core.

But I'll still bet you could look up the complete rebuild in eBay for the same price of about $150. Surely better than paying $1k.
