This box is actually going to work out pretty good. After I add in the wire, there won't be a lot of room left.

I think this mod will take me from really liking my truck to loving it. The lockers are the reason I haven't gotten too serious about any other mods. However, with this and the hope of the AEV Ram going into production things could get damn expensive!

It's going to be really nice to be able to turn the knob and know that at least the locker solenoids have power. No bypass switches to deal with and no smartbar causing issues.

My relay board is not going to work, I didn't read the specs close enough on the input power and it requires 24V. After adjusting the pots, the LEDs function perfectly but there's not enough voltage to trip the relays. However, I have found a better alternative at a lower cost, so I'm considering it a win! I ordered the new boards (one for each axle) and they should be here in a couple days. Bad part is getting them from a US supplier makes them a lot more expensive but I went ahead and bought two of them so I could finish testing. Once testing is done I'll have to order these from China...

If all goes well, I'm going to be able to sell these for a lot less than I was expecting. Buying everything in bulk helps a ton. They will a good bit less than $300. Since I'm about 97% confident that everything will work like I planned, I'd like to start a list of who will be ready to purchase as soon as these are done. I hope to have most if not all of them out the door by the end of the year. If you wouldn't mind, copy and past the list below and add your username and year of your truck. This will also help in determining the final price. I'm going to be on the hook for a lot of parts so I want to have a good list of who will be able to buy right away.

do you have a summary of the installation process you think will be required for this project? i'm just not an electrical guru so i'ld like to know what i'm up against prior to ordering.

thanks,

mike

ps. try to make it adaptable for the 2015 PW (10th anniversary edition) i'm going to buy so i can transfer it!

These will be for 4th gens only at first. I've got a lot of research to do for the 3rd gens still. The harnesses that go to the axles will be the same but the connector that I'm interfacing with under the hood isn't there on the 3rd gens. I can sell the kit for 3rd gens if you're wanting to cut your factory harness, but it's not at the plug-and-play stage yet. There's one wire to splice into and three wires to cut for the lights to work. I'm thinking that we're going to have to go into the cab to get the wires we need unless someone knows of a connector under the hood that's not on the diagrams. From what I can tell, there's a connector in the driver kick panel then it goes through the firewall straight to the smartbar.

I would rather have the USA made relay boards. That may just be me but if giving the choice I'd pay extra to have all USA made components.

There's no telling on the 2015. Ram could see what I'm doing and change everything. Lol. Since it will still be a 4th gen, I imagine it would work. 2016 should be the year of the 1500 5th gen and 2017 will be the HD 5th gen, if they follow suit from previous gens.

Installation will be very straightforward. I posted a pic a couple pages back of where the black box will mount. Out of that box will be a harness that runs toward the front of the truck then will split with one harness running to the front axle and one T harness that goes between a plug behind the passenger headlight area, which is very easy to get to. The harness that goes to the front axle will get zip tied to some other harnesses that will lead all the way to the axle. The other part of the main harness will get routed in front of the radiator and then to the battery area. You'll have a connection at the positive and negative terminal at the battery then finally there will be a plug for the harness that leads to the rear axle. This harness that leads to the rear axle will be separate for ease of installation and removal for dealer trips. You'll run this separate harness all the way back to the rear axle. There are other harnesses that run all the way to the axle so you'll zip tie the new harness to those. My thoughts on this was that you could remove everything except for this harness and be back to stock. You can tie up both ends of this harness and the dealer wouldn't know it was there.

I'll take plenty of pics for installation and include printed instructions with each kit. It will be impossible to hook up anything incorrectly, as long as you connect the red wire to positive at the battery and the black wire to negative. ;)

It's the same exact relay board. I just found a seller in the US that had a few available for a quick delivery.

Thanks!

I think those of you who want one but just not right now, you might add your name to the list and put later or something in parenthesis. I plan to build some extras and it would be nice to know approximately how many extras to build. I'd like to have a few on the shelf but don't need bunch of them sitting around for a long time.

3rd Gen guys can probably add their name too, so I can see how much interest there is in that kit.
