Winch Wiring

Post by pnora » Tue Nov 07, 2023 12:35 pm

Need some help on my 2015 Warn Winch wiring. The remote plug has 4 wires. I know one is 12 volt hot. What are the others? Does the remote switch the power to the solenoids or does ground do the switching?

I looked up info for a 2015, I can't find a wiring diagram for the remote but I found these diagnostic tests from the factory service manual. You said your remote has 4 wires, but everything I've found shows 5 wires.

Then there's this from https://connectorrepairkit.mopar.com
This was for a 2015 Ram 2500, again it shows 5 wires. The colors might not match what's inside the cord on the remote but it might match the back of the socket on the winch.

Are you sure you have the factory winch or could it have been upgraded to something newer with 4 wires?

Thanks. I need to verify my wiring. I thought the jumper from the remotes plug to the winch only had 4 wires on the rectangular plug. The plug for the remote is sealed so I can not see anything. You are correct the remotes plug does have 5 pins.

This looks like it might be the replacement 5 pin socket for the winch. The brown wire has 4 eyelets to provide switched ground to all 4 of the the solenoids and the white and green wires both have 2 eyelets each to provide switched power to 2 of the solenoids at a time. So it looks like the remote is providing both switched power and switched ground to trigger the appropriate solenoids for in or out.

The thing to keep in mind is that the PW winch has a thermal protection switch inside the motor, that this harness doesn't accommodate, which might be a good thing, for bypass purposes.

I have the factory winch service manual, but this forum doesn't support PDF files. If you want to send me an email, I can forward that PDF to you: AbelComponents@yahoo.com

Or you can download it from post #7 on this thread from another forum, which is where I got it from (thanks pdavey!): https://www.dodgetalk.com/threads/bypas ... on.250483/

The winch is original to my truck and I ordered the truck new. I have the FSM on CD but my computer will not open it. I will give you my e-mail if you have the time to send me the PDF. Thanks.
