which tire is standing up the best

Post by rammit11 » Thu Jan 14, 2021 8:41 pm

Hi, looking for some info as to which 285/17 tires are holding up the best for milage. I have a set of Bf junk ko2 E range on mine right now and am very upset with the tire. I have around 13.500 miles ans just over a year and worn down to 7/32 and the jokers at Bf goodrich will only insult you with a 60% offer to replace them. They know the tires are not up to the task of handling a 2500 truck but put no cautions on the tire adds about rapid wear ,but claim the truck is the problem and the tires are fine. Just don't feel like putting more money in their pockets if they cannot produce a quality product .

I've run 4 sets of the BFG KO or KO2 on various vehicles... They are prone to cupping on the outside lugs and wear faster than you might expect (regardless of what pressures you run them at).

What do you do with your truck? It's it's off-road mostly then Toyo MTs are great. But they are not best for mileage and on-highway. They are not terrible, but you can certainly do better for less doing mostly highway.

1. So what I have so far was 12K on the Duratrash and dozens of flat tires, and one destroyed tire, and crazy cupping. Good traction
2. 39K on BFG MT set, which I waited too long to rotate and had some bad cupping. The best by far for traction.
3. I am at 26K on the Nittos, rotated once and no significant cupping at all. However had a flat fixed the other day and I do not see them making 39K surprisingly. Traction is by far the worst of the 3.
2018 Flame Red, Moon Roof, Dual Alternators, Ram Boxes sadly Ram ran out of, Luxo Package with 8.4 UConnect, Enter and Go with remote start, Auto Wipers and Lights. Added missing skids and White Knuckle sliders. 35" BFG KM3s. Procal and Warn wireless remote for winch.

My $.02: my use is 60% highway & towing; 40% forest service roads, logging roads, & some fire trails. I ran the Toyo M55’s at that size for many years. Bullet proof IMO. When I Changed to 35’s: ran 1 set Nitto ‘s & liked them but about 25,000 m wear started causing noise & vibration issues. Ran 1 set Toyo MT’s great for off road, not so much for mileage. So switched to 2 sets of the Toyo AT Ii’s; good all around tires but not so good in snow.; changed to Open range all terrain currently about < 30,000 and a bit over 1/2 tread. Very good on highway, and serves my off road needs very well in most conditions. Good w trailer, better mileage than other 35’s ; Good in snow to about 1’; Does ok in mud, but I do not do much mud, nor rock crawling.
Lots of members also have expressed good opinions over the years on other brands. Somewhere in the past on this discussion thread were polls on top tire recommendations. Believe from other inputs our truck’s weight causes performance issues for some brands especially in the higher % use of more extreme off road uses.
