Microwave in your truck/vehicle.

Has anyone else done this ? I have been doing this for a while & I gotta tell ya, it sure is neat & quick way to eat when hunting or camping without the camper. No mess either. Food is already in some microwaveable plastic container. When done, just put the top on & no mess. I use the inverter setup I made years ago. The microwave is just the cheapest turn dial one they had at K-mart. Think I paid $25 for it when my daughter worked there. 700 watt. It works like a champ.

I know for some, cooking while camping is the fun part. I do that too sometimes. But mostly, I try to prepare the food (usually just the meat) before we go camping. That way, if the weather is bad, or you do something spur of the moment, you don't have to cook over a fire at night to eat. Throw it on a plate, in the microwave & you got dinner in just a few minutes.

Just curious what others do.

 I love that movie!

TwinStick, do you start the engine when you microwave or just rely on the auxiliary battery?
That's a great idea!

Yes, engine is always running when i use it. It's funny sometimes, peoples first reaction, to a microwave in your truck. My hunting buddies i used to hunt with said: :wtf: would you put a microwave in your truck for ? After the first day, they knew. Eating lunch was at least a 2 hr event, at best. Get out of the woods, take off hunting clothes (so you can drive), get into truck, drive 40-45 min to restaurant, eat, go back, get dressed, back into woods, etc.. . I ate & was done in 15 minutes top. Back into the woods. The very next day, they had food in containers & asked if they could use the microwave ! The inverter is a HF 1500/3000 or a 2000/4000, can't quite remember right now. I will check later today or tomorrow when i go out to the garage.

I am a foodie, so i like to eat & eat well regardless of where i am. I couldn't even be normal in the military. I used to bring a small stove & food to the field too, so i didn't have to rely on some of the crap they fed us. I can eat almost anything, but why, when you don't have to.

They are both hooked up when i use the inverter & truck is running. 270 amp alt on mine as well. Inverter also starts my Craftsman compressor & my Husky compressor, even when it is like 20* outside.

Nowadays with a refrigerator/freezer , stove and my little Weber, I eat better when I'm camping, than when I'm at home.

We're putting one in the new trailer... 7.5kW genset on the front, fire that up if we want to use it.
Majority of what's wired in there is 12v; no giant inverter... just use the gen if we need to. Gen's plumbed into the fuel cell under the trailer, so it'll run for months on what's in there.

Plus, the gen will power the DC converter, charging house batteries while it's running...
