Power Wagon Picture Thread

Post by Low_Sky » Mon Dec 03, 2018 11:43 am

And I’m “ain’t skeered” about losing a bead. First time I’ve done it on this truck, but that’s why I carry full tire repair tools on the trail.

Reseated it and drove it the rest of the way off the trail. Had to put the spare on when I got back to the highway. Was getting out of balance from the ~gallon of water and sand inside it.

Cleaned it out yesterday and we’re back to 100%. I even learned that TPMS sensors are submersible, at least for a little while. This one was dunked for as long as it took me to pull cable and winch out, and when I put the wheel back on the truck and drove it around the neighborhood it came back to life.

Snow week? 8-)
Just about packed, got most of the course work gone through. Heading north for a week of snow dork training.
First load-up with the new glides installed in the bed.
Image

Wide-Glides are just the right length, from back edge of the bed to the front of the carbide when the sled's in the bed. :lockedandloaded:
Image

Track and ramp catches on the tailgate glides when I slide the sled over to shove the ramp under it. Otherwise i'm happy with this so far.

New radiator. Had some issues overheating on long pulls with a trailer, that with the same trailer didn't used to overheat the truck.
Also had a coolant smell in the cab... Thought it was a leaking heater core, shop said leaking and inefficient radiator.
They also serviced t-case (fluid was dark), replaced rear diff seal (again, apparently it was leaking), and the gas struts on the hood.
Image

Hopefully good for the season ... because I need a new track on my sled. :(

How low was your tire pressure?

There's always a trade-off between traction and keeping the bead seated :D

I’m nervous to ask what a decent beadlock would cost in an 8-lug, 17” wheel. I wonder if anyone has tried running Humvee tires and wheels, and the bolt pattern is the same...

About 2500 for a set of 5 beadlocks. And you can run Hummer wheels but you have to get them bored out. There was a website that sold them refurbished and bored out that I saw a year or two ago. Ymmv.

If Low Sky gives the go-ahead I’ll make you guys a group deal.

HMMWV wheels will not work on our trucks. The wheels cannot be made to fit over the brake calipers. If you COULD get them on they are a serious hazard, if you get a stone lodged between the caliper and the wheel you can slice the wheel in half.

I'm running 25/20 cold on the street. They come up to 29/24 hot.

I think base price on TR's is around $460ea. Once you add in colors you're a lot closer to $600ea.

Had to use the winch today! Got a little too close to edge of rut and it gave out beneath RR, got hung up on rear differential.

Truck looks great in the snow, Low_Sky.

I ended up winching off another truck. Considered snatch strap, but figured winch was safest option since I didn’t really know how bad it was hung up.
