I just picked up, literally just the other day, a Colt LE6940 AR15 with the "Restricted" roll stamp. I haven't had a chance to fire it yet.

Working on what mods I want, especially a scope. Looking at one of the Trijicon ACOG 4x32 models, but they are pricey, but these scopes not for long range that you guys are talking about. I'm sure they're good for up to 800-1000 yards, I think.

Can hardly wait to find some time to shoot it.

Nice Ace, :D If you want to shoot out to 800-1000 yards. better get a bigger scope. Something in the 10x and higher range. That 4x32 is a short range scope that good out to about 400 yards. Unless you got a good eye. The Nikon M223 Laser scope I have for mind is 2.5x to 10x. It's good out to 600 yards.

Thanks, Russ! I'm torn on the scopes. I like your scope. I'm still undecided. It will probably be months before I get one. In the meantime, I'll probably stock up getting a few cases of ammo. I hope to find some time this week or weekend to play a little with it at the range with the stock sights.

I was reading up on the ACOG scopes, only because I kind of liked the one Kenny has on his POF415. Trijicon's website says they are good for 800 yds. But you're right, that's hard to understand because they are only 4x. Here's a couple of them I was looking at. Too bad they are not variable. But they are expensive and cost more than the gun!

Those scopes are $$$. Ace, do you know the rate of twist in your barrel? The faster it is. The heavier bullet you can use. Which has better down range performance. Mine is 1 in 8. And I'm using the Serria 69gr match bullets out to 600 yards with no problem. With the faster rate of twist in the barrel (1 in 9, 1 in 8, 1 in 7). You DO NOT want to use the 50 to 52gr varmit bullets. The faster rate will spin strip the lightweight jacketing off the bullet core going down the barrel. These bullets are design for the slower 1 in 10 .223 bolt action barrels. not the faster 556 NATO barrels.

The Colt LE6940 is 1:7. So based on what you're saying, I'll be ok with a 69gr.

And yea, I know those scopes are $$$. They are more on my WISH list. I was looking at something more practical and in my price range (yea, right!), like the Trijicon TR22 series, 2.5-10x56.

Or the Trijicon TR20 3-9x40

I think I'll wait until after Christmas.

1 in 7. You can use the 90gr bullets that's out there. You won't have as much speed but wiil have the energy, and better aero CD.
