Picked up a G43...

Post by Cactus Red » Wed Jun 10, 2015 12:12 pm

...last week. I've shot a G42 before, so I can report that the 9mm vs. 380 recoil is roughly double, but still very controllable with 115 gr. loads. Also have a Dale Fricke IWB holster on order for it.

This is the gun I've been waiting for Glock to build for years. It will replace my old tried and true S&W 442 as my CCW gun. None of the other small single stack 9's appealed to me at all.

Have you gotten a chance to shoot the Sig 938? If you like or are comfortable with a 1911 style feel and single action it's pretty hard to beat...absolutely love mine

For a concealed carry I like my S&W 3913 just fine. (with extended finger grip mag)

I'm truly a Glock guy - with well over 100000 rounds thru them from a G17, G19, G22, two G23's, and a G21SF, nothing else points right for me. When I was shooting a lot I averaged 8000 rounds a year of 40 S&W alone a year. That's when reloading via Dillon 550 was cheap.

Glad to hear you like it. I have been hoping for this for a long time too and am looking forward to picking one up. It will be nice to just buy piles of 9mm instead of 380 too.

How does the G43 compare to an XDS45 or LCP380 (size wise obviously) - those are my two favorites depending on what/where and how good I'm trying to conceal.. A 9mm single stack sounds interesting..

There are several YouTube size comparisons out there, but in aggregate of all dimensions, it's about the smallest 9mm. Yet it's very controllable. It comes in at 18oz unloaded, 4oz more than the G42 - increased slide mass makes up most of that.

I just got a chance to look into them - very similar in size to my XDS... I just want a 9mm in the size of my LCP 380... ;)

That is...incredibly impressive. Man, I would love to pick up some Dillon items....are they worth the price tag they go for? I really need to get myself a progressive loader for handgun loads, I have a single stage RCBS that I picked up to stop draining my bank account on 458 SOCOM rounds but its really not worth the time on handgun loads.

350 to 400 pistol/revolver rounds an hour is easy on a Dillon 550. With care, similar rates are possible with 5.56, but larger cases slow things down for me. It's much more difficult to get a visual on powder with rifle cases too. If you shoot a lot, they are worth every penny.

I'm a student of Chuck Taylors ASAA from the early 90's - took five handgun courses from him. After AZ passed it's CCW law, I was a range safety and instructor with a friends business for a couple years. Prior to all that, I went thru the CHP Acadamy while in the USCG back in '81. So, when you spread out those rounds over 35 years, it's not hard to shoot over a hundred thousands rounds.

On your Glock 9mm's. Are you getting any bulged cases. I've seen a few examples at the range and read about some on the internet. That's one of the reasons I don't own a Glock right now.

You reloading for the 9mm? If you are. What's your specs?

My wife carries a M&P Shield in 9mm, with the 8 round mag. She loves it. I carry a M&P 40 Pro Series with the full Apex Tactical kit.

Part of the extreme reliability of a Glock is it's chamber design. The feed ramp is very slightly longer, and leaves the rear of the case open. It causes a bulge only noticed when checking with calipers. I used to reload 9's, and it made no difference in case life. I'd get 4 or 5 uses out of a cases with Dillon carbide dies. Never had a case split at the base, only the neck after they work hardened and thinned. Back then I only shot Federal ammo - I think they made the best brass. No cheap steel cased Russian crap or Blaser aluminum cases thru my guns...

My daily carry gun is a G21-SF in a Dale Fricke custom OWB holster.

I reload for the 9mm. I cast my own bullets. 155gr round nose with a gas check. Good practice rounds.

No lead for Glocks. The polygonal rifling doesn't work at all. It leads up terrible...

The gas check helps. Before I'm done shooting for the day. I shoot a handful of jacketed bullets through it to clean out the lead.

My step father was in the market for a good concealed carry firearm, he's really not that savvy on guns so based a lot off this thread I recommended he get a g43....to me seems like an overall much more user friendly firearm. It's a great gun to shoot...I'm a lot more impressed than I thought I would be. Size comparison to my Sig 938. Just from personal preference I would take my Sig any day...but I wouldn't be surprised if I pick one of these up for myself or the wife in the near future

I've installed a Ghost connector to it - very noticeable difference in trigger pull. Between the connector and SuperLube synthetic grease, it's as light as I want for a pocket gun. Also received my Dale Fricke IWB holster, mag pouch,
and Zach trigger holster. As with my G21 SF holster, these are superb in quality and function.

Good choice - now have him get at least 8 hours of good instruction. http://www.fpftraining.com/wcs3_class/c ... on-skills/ would be a great place to start.

It really has made me rethink my opinion regarding glocks which is probably dated and misinformed...I'm interested in looking at a 17 or other fullsize sig

Ghost Inc. can make a Glock trigger much better and maintain 100% reliability. My G21 SF is super clean at 2.5 pounds with a short reset and virtually no over travel. That's using their complete package - all new springs and connector. The other thing I do is carefully scrape in the trigger safety so that you get a flat trigger face with a fully functional safety. There is lots of info on YouTube on that procedure.

Nice thanks for the info...as a die hard 1911 guy it's killing me to admit how much I'm digging this glock. The idea of shaving down the safety is awesome and definitely something I'm going to look into.

Too bad you're not closer - after a couple magazines thru my 45, you might convert completely. It's very comforting to have 27 rounds of 230 grain Winchester PDX-1's on hand.
