Hmm. It has the EcoBoost and a 10 speed tranny. It should be interesting.

Re: 2017 Raptor
Well, it has "an advanced, easier-to-use version of off-road mode driver-assist technology." Just something else I don't want. Just like I don't want an EcoPoops engine, unless they agree to fix it for free when all the technology turns to poop when it's twelve years old.
I suppose the "easier to use" part of the driver assist is Ford's response to both the driving skills and the IQ of the typical Rapturd flat bill buyer.

Another link at Carbuzz: http://www.carbuzz.com/news/2015/1/12/P ... r-7724802/
"There’s a new four-wheel-drive, torque-on-demand transfer case that manages power distribution between the front and rear wheels. It combines the best attributes of a clutch-driven, on-demand all-wheel drive with durable, mechanical-locking four-wheel drive."
"A new Terrain Management System enables the driver to select modes to optimize driving dynamics depending on road and weather conditions. There are also six preset driving modes: Normal, Street, Weather, Mud and Sand, Baja, and Rock."
All of that reads to me- more shit that can go wrong three days after your warranty is up. I just wonder if they have fixed the bending frame issue?

Re: 2017 Raptor
The torque-on-demand transfer case sounds scary in an offroad vehicle. Probably the same clutch based TC that I have in my 1500. Great for driving to the grocery store in the snow, not so much off road. Can you imagine a clutch on the front output shaft on a Power Wagon? Clutches would be burned up left and right. LOL

Re: 2017 Raptor
I just told the wife she is getting a Raptor in 2017 come hell or high water. She said not a chance in hell. I said your 2001 130,000 mile jeep is gone in 2017 and what do you want to replace it? She said If you want a Raptor then get it and I will take your PW. Now I'm second guessing my decision. Crap I'm torn!
With 3" bypasses and a 200# lighter engine with more peak HP and torque what is not to like! With 5 different power modes and 10 speed transmission, paddle shifter and the very same posi as we use in the back differential but in both front and rear differentials on the Raptor but with E-lockers too. There is a new four-wheel-drive, torque-on-demand transfer case that manages power distribution between the front and rear wheels. It is said to combine the best attributes of a clutch-driven, on-demand all-wheel drive with durable, mechanical-locking four-wheel drive.
A new Terrain Management System enables the driver to select modes to optimize driving dynamics depending on road and weather conditions. There are also six preset driving modes: Normal, Street, Weather, Mud and Sand, Baja, and Rock.
Seems to me the PW is just sitting there and taking the beating! Lets not forget the Raptor has 35" rubber from the factory on 1/2 ton hardware while dodge tries to void our warranty for such an upgrade!

Re: 2017 Raptor
The Power Wagon is taking a beating??? The Raptor for a half ton truck is awesome at what it does, but now that they have taken away a V-8 and added more electronics to the four wheel drive system, there's no way I'd trade my 3/4 ton work truck for one.

Re: 2017 Raptor
Me either! Thats the beauty of it... I would get to own the over priced toy that gets better mileage and still get to keep the PW for what it does best! EVERYTHING!... but play that is. My 2009 will beat the snot out of a 2009>2015 Raptor. The 2017 PW represents all that I believe in for offroad performance... less weight, Higher HP and torque, more wheel travel, bigger bypass shocks, wider track, modest but capable tire size, performance shifting, more gears, manual shifting control and traction enhancements etc.04Ram2500Hemi wrote:The Power Wagon is taking a beating??? FYI; I am never getting rid of my PW as it is the best HD truck ever made to date!

Re: 2017 Raptor
I can't see me doing the same thing in a raptur as i do in my PW. I don't think the raptur would hold up. Pull a 10,000 lb camper, don't think so. First time with water over the hood. The electronic would fry, And I don't think it would rock crawl or be a mudder either. It's the perfect mall crawler though.

Re: 2017 Raptor
Big deal! If you gave one to me I'd sell it in a heartbeat. I hate Fords newer than 1972. My neighbour has a 2 year old expedition with the electric running boards that retract. Already they don't work and it $6000 to fix. Oh they love putting all that " cutting edge crap" on their vehicles and when it fails( and it surely will) they make a killing.
I reluctantly drive fords because my work buys them. They are junk and the electronics are a joke. I have never seen so many issues with new vehicles in my life. 69000 Kms ( 40000 miles) on the 350 super duty that I currently have in my driveway and it squeaks and rattles like a 15 year old truck and it's only 3 years old. The fact that they sell more than any other truck brand is a complete mystery to me. It has to be the fact that they have good marketing in combination with gimmicky gadgets that draw people in like cats to Christmas ornaments.
The power wagon is 10 times the truck. People who drive rapturds rarely see dirt.

Yeah.... The Raptor is neat looking, but that ecoBoost engine and the electonics really scare me and make me want to stay away. Plus it's a Ford
but that's beside the point. Had my PW not had issues, I would have kept it forever. Like what was stated earlier, a good winter/snow grocery getter, but not capable of doing what the PW does (even with the lower payload capacity).

Re: 2017 Raptor
R0NAN, I think part of the reason people buy Furds is because the company is great at advertising their product. Like you said, they do extremely well during their first year or so, but they don't handle abuse. Well....the new ones don't anyway. I've used a lot of '07 and earlier superdutys with both the V10 and the 7.3 for landscaping and plowing and they were (are still) great trucks. The goal to get the newest and "best" performing equipment has really caused them to overlook longevity. And that's why I like Ram

Re: 2017 Raptor
How does the environment it is designed to play in work with the turbo's ? Does a super sandy or dusty environment decrease their life at all ?
On a side note, our PW's have a LOT less electronic nannies than the new Raptor & we have issues with the little we have. I can't imagine the issues with a 6 choice terrain management system that is tied into the torque on demand t-case. So many choices....how the f*** would you even know if it was not working properly ? So many gears....how would you know if it was f***ed up ?
I can see it now ("it's not shifting right in 4th or 5th or is it 6th gear ?" ).
The Big 3 have SOOOOOOOO missed the boat in the 4x4 truck market.
What we want:
safe
simple
reliable
easy to fix
reasonable fuel efficiency
What we get:
unsafe (ever see a Dodge roll over ?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0AqKuWpDsk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxZ1G44Emiw
complex
unreliable
hard to fix
horrible fuel efficiency
The Big 3 are like the anti-us.
Don't get me wrong, i love my truck (when it is working properly), but i hate that f***ing bitch when it's not. Hate the horrible fuel mileage.

Re: 2017 Raptor
The problem I see with ferbs is that they never leave anything alone. How many different diesel motors have they gone through with the f250's? How many different gas motors they have gone through? Instead of fixing the bugs, They start out with a clean sheet of paper. If you want to do any work on a diesel now. You have to pull the cab. I bet in a few years. Those with the diesel. When it breaks after the warranty is gone. You'll see a lot of them on the market. Because they can't afford the repairs.

Re: 2017 Raptor
All true and I will likely change my mind by the time it comes out but I have driven a local friends Raptor and other than being nose heavy it is a fun toy but His is modified quite a bit in the suspension department. I need a real truck and the PW is it however if I could own a expensive toy then likely that would be it. I'm not afraid of all the modes and such as there are tuners. The turbos are used in all types of conditions and the original Eco-boost turbo motor was tested at the Baja 1000 then torn down and inspected for all to see.RustyPW wrote:The problem I see with ferbs is that they never leave anything alone.

What I see in the new raptor is a toy that the engineers have had a field day with. All the electronic automatic junk is for the new generation of kids that will never work on their own vehicles anyway and will probably just dispose of the toy when it breaks.

Verdesardog, you aren't kidding. And sadly it's not just Ford. Look at the new Cherokee trail hawk. It's got like four different types of 4x4 traction control settings (mud, ice/snow, rock, sand). It takes the skill out of driving off road and to me it just complicates things.

Re: 2017 Raptor
Reminds me of a road test that Motor Trend did around 2003 or so. They took a bunch of big bucks SUVs out to the desert for a comparo and the new Escalade with computer controlled AWD got stuck in the sand because with no wheel having traction the computer shut off torque to all four corners. The Escalade just sat there, whereas the previous model had a real transfer case with 4Hi and 4Lo, just like the Z71 trucks. I absolutely hate computers in trucks, and I'm not real fond of them in cars, either.

I have a '13 Grand Cherokee TrailHawk with the stupid selector knob. Wish it had the old transfercase in it with the lever like in my old '04 Grand Cherokee.Calvinm119 wrote:Verdesardog, you aren't kidding. And sadly it's not just Ford. Re: 2017 Raptor
I may have to re-think this as I have yet to deal with the new traction profiles. The older Raptor has an off road mode that has much better shifting profile for high speed off road use and I liked it better than a generic automatic like my PW. I must agree though manual shifting is the best mode for a spirited driving style. I'm going to test drive one regardless. To be honest if my PW had manual paddle shifters I would be much happier!RustyPW wrote:I have a '13 Grand Cherokee TrailHawk with the stupid selector knob. Re: 2017 Raptor
A clutch with stick shift rocks even more.
My work vehicle is an 11 Expedition. It is okay for highway driving, but the biggest POS off road. I have trouble getting through stuff that my all wheel drive Subaru will go through no problem. It is cheap as well.....cheap interior, cheap controls, everything is cheap compared to our 3 year older Durango or my year older PW. I will never own a Ford or GM product. So many people complain about Chrysler products, but I have been around a lot of different models over the years and Chrysler seems to be more reliable, for me anyway.

Re: 2017 Raptor
At work, we have a couple of ferbs and chebys. They don't hold up well and don't offroad well either. I've been called a few times on the radio to come and winch someone out.
When you have multiple drivers for a couple of company vehicles. Then you will see how well the vehicles hold up. Because the guys WILL try to drive them into the ground. We have a Polaris UTV that has been rolled 8 times.

Maybe we should suggest to Morgan (AKA MyYoung) that his next project is making paddle shifters work for the Power Wagon...TwinStick wrote:PADDLE SHIFTERS ROCK !!!![]()
