I just came back from a scouting trip about 60 miles off the pavement into the deep Canadian wilderness. Was trying to get into a river that I've fished called the Kakwa river. I was there a few years ago on my quads via a different route and I wanted to see if it was possible to get my trailer in there via oilfield roads.
Seems unlikely due to the lack of gravel in the roads. The mud here is like grease. At 5-10 mph, my truck slowly slid off the crown of the road into the ditch more than once. The last 6 miles was a battle and I ended up having to give up as I had to descend about a 1000ft on a fairly steep grade. Certainly would have been stranded down there until it froze up at night and I needed to get back before then. The ground was frozen underneath the mud and there was melting snow runoff everywhere. After about 40 miles I didn't see anyone all day. Had to use the lockers more than once and thankfully they locked up when I needed them. Looking forward to getting myoung's bypass kit to say the least.
Good mud tires would have made a difference as I quickly found the limitations of the bfg's in mud. All in all they are still a pretty decent tire though. I'm thinking of getting tire chains for this kind of crap. I use them at work in this kind of stuff and they are awesome. You just have to make sure they are tight and not tearing your fenders to shreds. Either that or get a better set of tires. My work truck has the toyo open country's and they are better in the mud even though they are still considered an all terrain tire. Love my truck. This was its first test and I am impressed. Didn't even have to use the winch due to the lockers hooking up when I needed them.

JBM power Wagon, we will have to definitely try to get together. I have had a couple weeks off cause I work in the bush and my crane would sink in some of the areas that I work in doing power line work. Spring breakup... I'm sure you know the routine up here. That area that I was in, NW of Grande Cache is awesome. It's nestled up against the mountains, on the edge of the willmore wilderness reserve. Countless miles of roads and some of the most beautiful scenery in Alberta. Lots of grizzly, elk, moose... You name it. The fishing in the Kakwa that far in is excellent. Lots of abandoned fire lookouts. I have a toy hauler and a couple quads and want to get back in there to explore and fish.
Next time I head out ill PM you. Let me know how your install goes with the bypass as I have one coming in a week or two.

That is a great looking power wagon. I would love to get a snorkel and rock sliders...I think I might try to fab some up myself.

As i noted in another thread i got my beasty stuck.... here are the pics 
got pulled out by a buddies nissan with the help of 6 tree limbs under the front tires. I didnt have any place to attach the winch too or i would have pulled my self out....which prompted a set of recovery gear purchases but that is another thread...

I got mine stuck bad once, I drove this spot a week prior with no issue, this time the surface cracked and it was like chocolate pudding underneath. As soon as I felt it get soft I hit the gas and straight down it went, never had a chance. I could get out with it in drive and all 4 were turning on idle. 
I had a friend come try to help with his Duramax 2500, we stretched the rope out to him on solid ground and he couldn't budge me (he was only spinning 3 tires also), if I tried pulling with the winch, I just pulled him to me. Ended up calling a wrecker and he had to put the T bar down to pull me out. When we finally got it out, it looked like you dropped a dozer blade and cleared a path where the axle drug out.

yeah Had the same problem surface looked good but as near as we can tell i found a flooded gofer colony and under the surface was whipped mud.....thankfully the hard pack road was not far off so my buddy was able to give me that little bit of help to get out. Of course he wont let me forget how his little Nissan pulled out the Power Wagon....
