Locker Bypass Rebirth

Post by Retired BLM Rig » Thu Nov 15, 2018 3:10 am

I finally received all the components to build a locker bypass prototype. The first step was to make a templet to cut an opening in the control box to install the 12 pin bulkhead connector housing. I'm happy with how it turned out.

Next step is to fill the box with wire and components, then build a harness.

Stay tuned... :patriot:

That's what they look like inside. When you install one you have to adjust the relays. In some cases you even have to readjust the relays after you've installed the bypass.

It's finished! You're looking at the first locker bypass system to be produced in about 2-1/2 years.

LB Prototype - 1.jpg
I installed it on my truck and everything works and tested perfectly.
Right about now you may be asking yourself, "How did he test a 4.5 gen bypass on his 3rd gen truck?" I spliced the 4th gen connectors into my truck locker harness for testing purposes and to maintain quality control. I also wanted to adjust the relays before it left my hands to make a more seamless installation for the 2018 test vehicle. Of course there may still be some voltage differences between 2008 and 2018, but that's what this is all about, figuring out if this will work on the newest trucks.

Now I just need to write up an addendum to the old instructions for the newer trucks, put everything in a box and ship it out. Then comes the long process of waiting for test results.

he may be referring to me? haha talk about the possible ambiguity of conclusive test results.

i offered to pay a "nominal" fee to potentially facilitate the development and prototyping of the unit, in return for a unit when it was ready.

well Retired sent me out a kill switch in a heartbeat. ill install and review that along with the locker bypass.

as soon as i have the bypass in my hands ill install within 24 hours.... barring my travel.
next week i leave for my brothers bachelor party in costa rica and the day after i return, i leave for a week in NY city for a real estate convention.
Team, if im still standing, ill get it done asap.

i apologize for any delay

I need to catch my breath during the holiday weekend, spend time with family and I have a wheeling trip scheduled for Saturday.
Now that I know that I have the right components to make this work, I need to order more supplies. One of the components has a 30 day lead time, because it's only available from Hong Kong. I did order some extra supplies to build the prototype on a gamble that they would be correct, but nowhere near enough to satisfy the insatiable appetite of the "Winch Mob".

When I'm ready to make these available, I'll start a new thread in the "Parts For Sale" sub-forum. Please keep in mind that I'm just one guy doing this in my spare time in a cold, dark corner of my garage. I'll do the best I can to try and keep up with demand and your patients will be greatly appreciated. You need to know that I never expected to be "that guy that builds the locker bypass".

If you want to start a list to show your interest in purchasing one of these, that would be fine so there is a first come first served basis. Based on the response from this thread, it would look something like this:

1. Mule007 (waiting on 3rd Gen connectors that are on order)
2. Olyelr
3. AlaskaTRX
4. TankerZak
5. EasyDoesIt
