If you own a 2015 PW and it's hesitating/surging...

Go to the service department, have them look up service bulletin # 18-097-16. It completely solved the light/part throttle hesitation & surging issues with my truck, which literally, plagued it from mile one to mile thirty-six thousand. I know others have had this issue, I just wanted to put it out there as I was never informed by Ram these PCM updates existed until I specifically told them I wanted it fixed, and to keep my PW as long as it takes.

Hope this helps someone!

A small number of customers may experience a surge, shudder or pulsation type
sensation when driving on smooth road surfaces at highway speeds of 64-129 km/h (40-80
mph).

The above is exactly the issue i'm having. The thing I can't figure out is it never occurs with eco mode lit up on the dash or when the truck is in eco mode according to the very obvious sound it makes. Eco mode appears to be an on/off thing with no transition in between from what I gather. The link posted makes it sound as if eco mode is part of the problem.

I towed the boat this weekend and was in tow/haul mode. The surging was there running 50-65mph at 2300 ish as well but considering the tech left my intake boot loose around my throttle body after disassembling the top end of the motor for the cam/lifter replacement who knows if that was the source of my surging up higher in the rpms. I can tell you since I fixed the loose intake it hasn't seemed to solve any of my surging issues.

Yes, even in tow/haul mode it will still surge, just nowhere near the level without it being in tow/haul mode. I don't believe I've ever really noticed the ECO light on mine, then again, I'm only averaging 13.2-13.8 MPG.

Do you think updating the PCM will clear out any AEV Procal adjustments?

I know for a fact it won’t clear out aev procal.

Getting a flash for recent recall clears out the ProCal, FYI

Hmmm, I will look at speedo again but I don’t think I lost my calibration for my 37s which came from procal.

In the process of activating my DRLs, the dealer reset/updated my PCM. I lost the tire calibration but not the TPMS thresholds.

I believe dealer reprogrammed me for 35s which isn’t far off hence why I didn’t notice. Adjusted with procal.

I took the TSB in and was told that the previous dealer did in fact flash this new software in. I was also told that the dealer I visited yesterday flashed in an even newer version. The truck still does the same thing. They told me to drive it until the new coolant reservoir is in and then we can look at replacing the egr. I will have the official writeup when the replacement coolant reservoir is installed. The surging has gotten to the point of making the truck really unenjoyable to drive.

Yes, it has all kinds of shit in it after they replaced the cam and lifters. Looks like oil and coolant mixed together which is why dealer is replacing it since they caused it doing the work. They will flush the system as well.

Well I understand that... but do they really think that the hesitation will suddenly stop once that is clean

Lmfao, no they never suggested that. I suppose my wording wasn’t great when describing the reservoir and the dealer telling me to drive it after software update and see how it runs.

The egr is not covered by warranty at 3 plus years and 55k. I’m going to order it and replace myself in the next few weeks I suppose.

It may be a good idea to go to another dealer after your new coolant reservoir, drive it in, tell them exactly what the truck is doing (bucking / surging), and pay the diagnostic fee for them to figure out exactly what is wrong with your truck. Yes, I absolutely feel your pain, my truck did it for 30,000 miles before the PCM update with no letters, phone calls, or emails from RAM stating that there was a TSB to solve this issue. There is something else wrong with your truck if the PCM updates didn't solve the problem, I would try my best to have it service related to the engine rebuild, call/email RAM corporate and tell them this issue started after the camshaft/lifter replacement to get it on record. They are responsible at this point, take some pictures of the coolant reservoir before they dispose of it for that purpose. Start posting it on their social media accounts. I hate going this far, but it took that to get my headlight replaced. The dealer only wanted to replace one of my headlights after it cracked and maintained moisture, eventually burning out the turn signal indicators. The replacement had a chrome trim ring, dealer didn't care that I had one black and one chrome headlight (after I specifically called them informing that both would require replacement prior, as the 15' models had a defect in the black trim rings and are no longer available). Both of my headlights have been replaced now, and no out-of-pocket fees.

Please keep us posted on how the replacement goes. Even with the lifetime warranty and under 20k miles on mine, I think I would still rather do it myself than have to dick with the dealer.

Will do. The warranty saved me money on the valvetrain issues but the hassle is only worth it if something expensive needs replaced/fixed as was the case for me.

Agreed. I have gone back and forth with myself trying to determine if I should keep the lifetime warranty or not. Between worrying about having the dealer not warrant an issue due to certain modifications or just the simple pain in the ass of getting anything done by them, if they can even do it, makes me skeptical. However, still holding out in case I have a big issue like a motor or trans or something. But, say the trans goes out at 25k and there are slightly oversized tires on the truck, for some reason I think they would laugh in my face.

They'd have to prove the tires caused it. Burden of proof is on the dealer. Read the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. I usually find if you actually read the warranty you bought and the Magnuson-Moss Act and know what your talking about you'll be fine. I've had them try to deny and then when you mention Magnuson-Moss and have them explain in detail how they intend on proving the mod caused the failure most back down.

The only thing the dealer said flat out would blow the warranty was turbocharging or supercharging the truck, but I should call before doing anything major to check. Most everything most people want to do was OK, but there were a few things that people had done that were issues.

What you posted is true but if/when the dealer tells you too bad you'll have to enforce the contract by legal means.

The sad reality is what Reloaderguy said is exactly right. The dealerships will look at you with a straight face and tell you that they inflated tires past the 50psi maximum because the door sticker is the absolute authority on all matters and sometimes does their taxes for them. The only recourse at that point is retaining legal counsel and they and many businesses know this which is why they can get away with high levels of ridiculousness.

If you were limited to one dealer and FCA wasn't invloved then yes. But you can go to another dealer and/or complain to FCA. If those are exhausted, yes you'd have to go the legal route. Rarely happens, usually its the on call guy at the desk and service manager will reverse it or service manager reverses course when FCA calls. Either way, what I'm saying is know your rights and when someone is blowing bullshit up your ass. Knowledge is power. 😎

Bullshit, I'm going through it right now. I complained to FCA, they called the dealer, and then called me back and repeated word for word what the dealer told them (which was a complete lie). Further, if the dealer is really deep dicking you, they'll put it in the Star Case so the next dealer you go to will read it and tell you to get fucked. Fortunately for me the dealer I went to was too fucking stupid to enter anything into the Star Case. But I digress, your post is wishful thinking. You're your own warranty the very second the dealer doesn't want your (FCA's) business bad enough.
